Scientists have proven that oil sands extraction creates unnaturally accelerated mutations to marine life beyond the borders of the Tar Sands region.

Whoever said that humans are the most intelligent life form is clearly mistaken! Another myth busted!

From the extraction site, where especially waterfowl have died, to this, tar sands oil is a natural born killer.

Thanks, Deb.

Thanks, Deb; noted, of course. 'Twas an interesting read, although this tar sands business is getting dirtier and dirtier, and pretty nightmarish.

We can only hope that President Obama will show integrity and loyalty to his principles, and not succumb to impertinent threats posed by arrogant oil barons. Not only does his vacillation make his decision unforeseeable with absolute certainly -- besides being potentially unfavorable, it also represents hope. There remains a question, however, whether he is intent on making any before his term ends. Since I can only speculate about his intentions, I am really not sure whether or not to wish for it, although I would be truly relieved to see him halt the project (the sooner, the better). If this thing remained open, it could only be resolved by his successor-to-be, now unknown.

I am convinced that, oilmen are not men of principles, neither will they listen to reason or science. In their greedy egoism they are after lucre, which black gold is a great source of. Political consequences? Or economic ones perhaps? But what about environmental consequences, or repercussions for the future generations, which would surely transcend the interests of one nation or country? Corporate w....s have not won any election, and they are not here to rule over this or any other country -- only those elected by the people are entitled to speak for the people, and should do so wisely, with a sympathetic ear, and in the best interest of their country and fellow citizens.

I do wish Americans that their President will make a move that he, in retrospect, will be remembered for with gladness -- and not with bitterness...

Thank you for another excellent and nightmarish article, Deb. And absolutely, Sylvie I always like to leave Obama with that message - How do you want to be remembered! All petitions signed, except one on facebook. I do wish some of these petitions would get more support. I know some petitions can get well over 200,000 sigs - now that's a statement! I would love to see those kind of numbers for wildlife and the environment!

I don't think anyone is surprised to hear this.

Amen Constance!

Why is it a petition to keep ONE family together rather than face deportation gets hundreds of thousands of signatures and yet here at the global animal and environmental welfare site we have to beg and kick and scream to scrape together enough signatures to even make a dent?

Priorities, people. Priorities.

Thanks Deb for another excellent article and petitions link. Love your comment, Sylvie. I totally agree, some people never to listen to anything except their greedy self. And yes to Constance and Michelle's comments....why it is more difficult to get signatures for animals and environments......will keep signing and forwarding.....

It is a real threat to the environment and the concerned politicians should act properly instead of prioritizing their narrow interests on the general welfare

One of the petition states: "The oil industry in northern Alberta, Canada has been described as the most destructive project on the planet." Well that's quite an endorsement! So how does Big Oil get away with forcing the consequences of this process on its innocent victims --in the form of humans and wildlife? The more I read about this process, the angrier I get. If the pipeline gets the go ahead in the U.S., all Americans should hold not only Big Oil, but the Republicans who pushed for the project's go-ahead knowing full-well of the dangers involved, responsible for any deadly consequences that occur.

Thanks for another great article, Deb! All petitions signed.
