EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said,"This case has revealed a systemic error in the Turkish constitutional framework....There is much at stake in the handling of this issue".
I think this statement has revealed a systemic error in Mr. Rehn's mental framework. He should educate himself on the meaning of "secular" and then move on to analyzing his interest in our freedoms.

How about that, hey? Can you take your leaders to court? We can. And suddenly EU and US are very concerned about the case.
A year after Atatürk established the Turkish Republic (Secular) he gave us Turkish women, the right to vote and to be voted, totally equal rights with men, by law. Now we donot want to regress, dress like the woman in the photo, and allow our country to turn into another Iran or Malaysia. Mr.Rehn and Mr. Tom Casey should think about that.

I WISH that we could take our "leaders" to court! To change the established laws in Turkey would irrevocably change a country that I have loved since childhood.
And Nur, the systemic error isn't only in Mr. Rehn's mental framework - it's in the entire framework of governments and individuals who are narrow minded and convinced that their way is the only right way...
The Turkish women that I knew as a child were strong, independent, outspoken and wonderful role models - much like the Turkish women that I am priviledged to know now.

Dear friend, you honor us with your comment and with the priviledge of knowing you, we all take one more step towards world peace and happiness.
Everyone should understand that secularity allows religions to stay pure and not be dragged into politics. And religion is a love affair, it cannot be dirtied by politics. Kuran never said, women should cover themselves. And true Muslims only want to be recognized by their insight and actions, NOT by the way they look.
People want this issue to be dealt with in the parliament. We believe, democracy is only possible, if LAW applies to all, including members of the parliament. And the law says, the Turkish Republic that Atatürk founded, is secular.
