For everyone finding their way to this post by means other than my shared message sent to all friends, I share my message with you here.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we bring you this message today.

Dear gentle Hugh has left our plane to begin his spiritual journey on the next level. If you knew him you would know that he would want us all to continue with his messages of love and peace. This is exactly what we and many others will do in honour and remembrance of a great man, one whom we call not only friend, but brother.

We came to know Hugh before becoming a part of the Care2 family.

As we imagine so many are, we have found ourselves at a loss for words, though we will do our best to convey our thoughts. It's what Hugh would want.

Hugh was not only a very dear friend, he was our brother and kindred spirit, our inspiration, our confidant. He will always be remembered as a gentleman, a teacher, a great giver of himself, and most of all, a true inspiration to everyone who he touched in his life.

We would like to share a quote from Hugh, a message we hope all will share and take comfort in.

"We are sending the power of love, peace and compassion, which can change the world." — Hugh MacDougall, Australia, SEN Honorary Advisor

Love and peace...

Oh dear lord ~ my heart is numb and I am at a loss for words...

You see, Hugh was my brother, as he was to many of us, I had only written him last week...We were in touch on a weekly basis. I just read this today, a minute ago to be exact and tears are just flowing down my face in streams...

Hugh was not just any human being, he helped me personally when I was down & out, offering his words of comfort, solace & most of all ~ LOVE ! He not only touched my heart, but my soul as well.

I am in a state of shock, I'm so saddened at such a great loss of a soul here on this planet! Hugh adored people and when writing for SEN, well, he gave it his all from his pure gentle heart...

Yes, indeed, Hugh was such a "gentle man"...My heart aches that such a wonderfully delightful soul has left this earthly plane. Like Sharon so elequently put it: Maybe his spirit was needed to accomplish more than he was able to do on this physical plane ~ I thank you for those words Sharon.

Rest now sweet, gentle Hugh ~ We will meet again in the spirit world, I can assure you. I salute you for everything that you have done for every cause! I love you sweetie and will certainly miss your inspirational words to me. *weep*
My condolences to Hughs family & friends....

Namaste' my beautiful brother Hugh ~ love you always & forever,

Very sad to see someone you have respected and who gave respect in kind, leave us. Bitter sweet are the emotions I'm feeling. As a follower of the Fisher of men I know Hugh is where he should be, among the angels that watch over the rest of us.. My human side wish he were here to share his wisdom and the faith he deeply held! My deep appreciation of the teachings of the Christ say that Hugh is where he should be and, prayfully, where we'll all be one day. Thank you Gregory for letting us know of his passing & putting up a memorial in Hugh's Name.

Life is so uncertain.

We have all lost a unique and valuable friend. Having known Hugh certainly caused all of us to be a little bit better than we would have been had we not had that singular pleasure.

Last time I wrote him I cautioned him to "stay dry" in view of the floods in his part of Australia. I wish his family and friends the very best.

I know for Gregory and Suzanne this was one of the hardest post you had to put out there. I know it would of been for me, and I am still fighting the tears as I write this. Although I never met Hugh in person, in the physical sense, I still met him. I felt his Heart, is persona, his essence, and he was Love. Pure and simple Love. Although I'm sure he'd be the first to say, I'm not perfect, he was certainly a rare gem in this world and I'm so Honored that Great Spirit allowed me to cross paths with him, even for a short time, and even from a distance.

Tom Edgar, thank you for leaving the comment on here. I savored every word of it as it was from someone who knew Hugh or Hughie as you so affectionately called him, for a long time in your life. My sympathies to you for your loss must be deep as you referred to him as like a son. Having lost a woman, last month, that I loved, who was "just like a Mother" I know how strong and deep that bond can go. Thank you for sharing the words that you did, it was as I expected he would be, in person and not just on the internet.

I also express my sincerest condolences to Ellen and Peter for the loss of your Dad. He must of been a tremendous influence in your life and I'm sure you will miss him deeply. There is never enough time with those we love, but cherish all the good times, hold those memories tight, and he will live on through those. I am so deeply indebted in my heart that I had the privilege to have met your kind Father. He stood for all that is good upon this Earth and is the beacon of what the Human Being should stand for. I'm sure you are very proud of him, for all he has done to try to make the world a better place. I want you to know that your Dad was able to reach out beyond his sphere of physical location and he touched many lives in many Countries.

As the Lakota would say, Hugh has dropped his robes and has taken his journey to the Spirit World. His ancestors await him where he will join all who have gone before him. One day, Hugh will greet those who are left behind, and so the Circle of Life goes on. We are always part of the Great Circle, we just move to another spot along the Circle. It isn't an end, just a new beginning for Hugh. Thank you Hugh for your kind emails, your support of causes that were important to me that you aided me in, thank you for the Light you showed to me, for you touched my Heart and that will remain with me forever.

Because of Hugh's loving and caring heart, I became involved in Amnesty International's Letter Writing Campaign on behalf of political prisoners this year.

What a fine gentleman. He left this world a better place by his tender heart and true caring for others. I know he certainly made a difference in my life, and because of Hugh I have committed to continue in the AILWC in his memory.

Rest in peace my dear friend. You have passed this way once, but have made such a beautiful difference to so many.

I daresay I have been a friend of Hughie's longer than most. Enigmatically he, a many times, born again Christian of varying intensities and I a lifelong atheist.

I photographed his wedding, then many years later he took over my business before he went off to China, Oh! we disagreed on religion but not in so many other areas.

Whilst Hugh and Joy's marriage didn't stay the distance he told me, so often of his deep love for his children, and admiration and respect for Joy, a sentiment I share, who deep down he still loved.

His philosophies and homilies were many and varied, usually coupled with that inherited Glaswegian dry sense of humour, although really from Paisley. The conversation that stays with me was when I said..."Hughie where I come from you either learned to run or fight."... Och 'twas the same in Glasgae, but I couldn'a run and I couldn'a fight so I learned to pray."..."Did it work then?".......Och nae the other kids still beat up on me."

Hughie was very much the "Dreamer" and was always contemplating some venture which would benefit others as well as becoming an artistic endeavour or even just yet another adventure, which recently led him into contemplating purchasing a property near to me in northern N S W. I talked him out of it. He was so patently honest himself he found it hard to believe the owner and the agent weren't really truthful.

Never a robustly healthy man his time in China ,where he was treated by a Traditional Chinese Doctor, was really his undoing. He returned to Brisbane where he was just in time for the Hospital Doctors to save his life, but unfortunately, for such a short time. He was one Bonzer Bloke. My son and I will sorely miss his visits.

Well Hughie, on crossing the Styx, may very well never know that it was the end. But the young fella had many and varied voyages in life, touched many, each and every one gaining something from just knowing him, whether electronically, or we fortunate enough to know him personally.

The world is a better place with people like Hughie, and a sadder one without them. Loved him like another son... "Och awa wi ye, and thanks for being such a lovable Sots git."... Tom.

i had asked Hugh's permission to borrow these beautifully composed words
for a friend who was suffering, he gladly agreed.
i utter them now for him....

I take your pain from my heart,

gently set it upon a broad leaf

smooth on tranquil water.

I watch the leaf float free

on mirrors,

drifting a tunnel of dark branches

and bright green leaves.

I pour your tears

into my cupped hands,

precious liquid gems (your adornment).

I kneel until the water

meets water and your tears

follow the River’s course

to join the encircling sea.

Thank You Hugh

I wanted to add something, because I feel my previous expression was too brief. As I explained to a friend of mine, who asked about him, but did not have the privilege of knowing Hugh:

"Hugh was one of the most genuinely guileless, loving and deep peace advocates I've ever met."

His effect on me, and all who crossed his sensitive path, was unique and remarkable.

What a wonderful guy!!!!!! I regret that I did not know him on here. He was an unobtrusive, Spiritualistic man that I would have been proud to know.

I read the following link, and I was amazed....

Hugs, and Prayers to his family, friends, and all of those who were blessed by knowing him.

Thank you FreeSpirit for the forward!.

I hope I did not offend anyone with the beginning of my previous post. The Article I read was really uplifting, and I did not mean to sound inappropriate. I just wrote my first thoughts upon reading it. It is very inspiring, and gives me hope for humanity. I think we could all use a little bit more hope.

Sorry that it came off all wrong. :(

I am sorry that I too did not know him, but wish that I had. He was so obviously a highly evolved soul and I believe those like him are able to help from the other side. Be warm in the Light that you knew existed and enjoy your much needed rest until you are able to help other souls again. To his family, may the fact that Hugh was loved by so many help heal your breaking hearts until you meet again.

Be Blessed! Stay Blessed!
Peace, Love and Light ;-)

I felt compelled to add this about Hugh ~

Some people are "takers" in this Universe ~ Hugh was a "giver"... A giver of himself and to others as well. This beautiful man whom I call "brother" once helped my son & I out with a gift when we lost our home ~ I knew I could never repay him but he didn't want anything back from me, he said he sent it from his heart...if not for Hugh & others on this site that are the "givers" in this world, well...we would probably be homeless. Hugh meant so very much to both my son & I. We had been close since that time and wrote each other often when we were both needing encouragement.

I will have some of his words to me on my page as my tribute to such a lovely soul ~ These were some of his last emails to me personally that I would like to share ~ Hugh would have wanted me to. He uplifted my spirit when I was down and he said I did the same for him. Bless his soul! I will certainly miss his presence...

Blessings of love & light to all,

Gregory and Suzanne~ I cannot imagine the Grief you must feel at this time. As I've lit a candle for Hugh with his picture, I have lit a candle for the both of you as well.

My telephone has been down all day as Dusty tryed to phone me before I read this news. About an hour ago the tele rang and it was Dusty...informing me of this travesty {she wanted to let me know before I read it on line...BLESS HER}. Dandelion and Sioux and Barbara...THANK YOU ALL for the forwards.

I have been crying...RAW ANIMAL PRIMAL I truly LOVE Hugh. I banged on the door of a neighbor as I didn't know what to do. I was crazy in pain at the loss of my DEAR FRIEND. As Shell stated...MY HEART IS BROKEN~ too.

I am so fortunate to have shared so many conversations with Hugh. I could never understand how someone so wise and kind...gentle and and compassionate...would be such a LOVELY AND TRUE BLUE FRIEND to me. As he "sees" peoples Heart...I felt so at ease AND WE BECAME LOVELY FRIENDS. I would crawl on glass for Hugh. His HEART and SOUL was too pure for this world. That is the only thing that makes sence as to why???

I miss you Hugh. Our PLANET misses you. Intellectually I understand what Dandelion wrote. But my Heart is in disconnect.

I am sorry if I don't make sence. I am numb...
Hugh, Rest in Peace my Love. I am honored to have shared this past year with you. HONORED. You have made me a better woman. A better human. I will carry you in my Heart until we meet. Love SuSanne x0x

Oh my goodness, it is rather mindboggling to hear of someone for the first time on the occasion of his passing. And the more wonderful you find out the person was, the gladder yet sadder you become. Hugh MacDougall was obviously a great, great man as amply evidenced by the astounding tributes that I've been reading, but also by his beautiful words and mission via the links. What a shame, when this planet needs a million more like him, and needs them desperately. I can only say that I'm so sorry for the pain of all those who called him "friend," and I'm also sorry I wasn't one of them.

What devastating news! Hugh & I had become C2 friends no very long ago. I was impressed by his thoughtful comments & his commitment to human rights. We had in common care & concern for Guatemala & human rights abuse there. I had hoped to share much with him in future. Unfortunately, his untimely passing has ended those hopes. What a shame!

Love Is Stronger Than Death by Matt Johnson

Me & my friend were walking
In the cold light of mourning.
Tears may blind the eyes but the soul is not deceived
In this world even winter aint what it seems.

Here come the blue skies here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Lovelovelove is stronger than death.
Lovelovelove is stronger than death.

In our lives we hunger for those we cannot touch.
All the thoughts unuttered & all the feelings unexpressed
Play upon our hearts like the mist upon our breath.
But, awoken by grief, our spirits speak
How could you believe that the life within the seed
That grew arms that reached
And a heart that beat.
And lips that smiled
And eyes that cried.
Could ever die?

Here come the blue skies here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Rise on your glorious journey Hugh...

Deepest sympathies and condolences to Hugh's "nearest and dearest" - our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Do not mourn for too long, though; he left with you the privilege of his inspiration and vision, to be shared with other generations. His physical body may have departed from Planet Earth but I'm sure he's got his work 'cut out for him' on the 'other side'! Go well - go with God (by whatever name you interact with Him). My sweet and Gentle Hugh, I was shaken this morning to hear from Suzanne the news about your sudden passing. I am one of those who had the privilege to be your friend, and I enjoyed being part of your loving and caring light. I benefited from sharing in your insights, in your wisdom, in your warm and contagious humor, and in your big heart’s eternal compassion. It was indeed a great honor to know you. Now you are flying home to paradise, where you belong, while we are mourning the loss of a truly caring friend. From your new place of glory, I believe you will find the light you had a vision of. That light you may now send out as your enhanced power of love, peace, and compassion to change the world. Thank you for generously sharing yourself with us while you were here, Gentle Hugh. I have no doubt that your warm and unlimited light of love now will embrace the whole Universe. And I know that we will feel it by positive changes here on Earth. Well, although you always wanted us to focus on the bigger spiritual picture, sending out love to all, I must admit that I am just a normal human being. Thus Gentle Hugh, if I could choose, I would rather have you down here, than up there. This world is empty without you. I send many warm thoughts to your family and friends, who are mourning your passing. You were a beautiful gift to this world, and we will all sorely miss you.

I have used up all my "Responses" it seems, so I would like to say thank you to those who "Starred" my letter regarding my old cobber Hugh, and those who may be thinking of doing so.

Regarding Hugh's health or really lack of it, a condition with which he was recalcitrant to burden other people, except maybe myself. Hugh returned from China with about 10% of his heart, and lung capacity working. The mind was still 110%. The Brisbane Hospital actually saved his life but the damage had been done. Hugh passed away peacefully sitting in an armchair. Probably still contemplating on how he could help others, and the world.

Thank you once again for your supportive remarks, and those to whom I have been unable to respond because of the restrictions my apologies and keep up Hugh's good work and embrace his philosophies.

When we are placed in this beautiful place called Mother earth we can be fortunate when we meet special people who stimulate our senses and bring us closer to what really matters in this life. I have been blessed by one on one communications with Hugh and he was to be my editor for my book. I was wondering why recently I was not able to contact him. Maybe some of you did not know ~~ not only he was a spiritual man, very talented, but among his talents he also was an editor by profession.

There is a beautiful song called "Calling all Angels" written and performed by by Jane Siberry. This comes to mind not because Hugh has need, but for US who need to be comforted for our physical loss. To understand that Hugh has not left us. He is among us and while he will not edit my book, his spirit will inspire me to complete it so all of us will benefit from his soul and spirit!

We feel you Hugh while you are probably running with the "Roos" of the Outback in the spirit world.

Greg and Suzanne, thank you for the difficult task to bring us the tragic news, you managed it in a most beautiful way.
My heart goes out to Hugh's family and all who were close to him.
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Thanks Hugh for walking part of the way with us on this long rough road of live. Keep shining your light on us so we will feel your inspiring presence.

Thanks to Sioux for the candle link.

Having read over the comments here again since my posting I became aware of how powerful this web site is between people who may only know others for their posted opinions. We are all longing for people who have similar passions as ourselves and who lead us to activities where we can hope to affect change. In a time of so much apathy and isolation in our longings for this world to turn itself around into a healthy ecosystem for all living things, we find here people who support our beliefs or give us information that may help us review our opinions and adjust them. It is difficult for many to find soul mates in our real world that care to listen or even care.
The value of this web site in making friends, having the opportunity to both discuss openly or more privately in our messages is enormous. Maybe this goes without saying but the response of grief and caring about one man, one member of Care2, is so very touching. We are all still here and have the chance to let one another know the importance of their thoughtful contributions to our causes.
Maya God bless you all who have expressed yourselves here, knowing Hugh, or not knowing Hugh, but to reflect the finest aspects of being human.
Wish I could say it more poetically, but hope you all get my message. You are all such awesome people.

Hugh appealed to the very best in all of us, striving always to make this a better world for others. It is so comforting and heart-warming -- surely above all for his children -- to see so many tributes to him, affirming his treasured influence lives on and multiplies in the hearts and minds of so many caring people. I can just see Hugh right now, peacefully smiling.

Judith P. poetically enough, my dear, your words came from the Heart and that is what mattered the most. Very nicely stated.

I also thank you Tom for the update and I do certainly agree with FreeSpirit Running. Hugh's physical heart may have been compromised, but what he held inside his heart certainly was not. As I read all the various comments, I can see how much he touched all of us on Care2, imagine how he must of touched those near and dear to him in Australia. We have all been blessed by Hugh's love, be it near or far, he touched us all.

I meant to add a special thanks to Tom Edgar for sharing a more detailed picture of Hugh and providing some comfort by letting us know he passed away peacefully! Thank you.
And oh yes, Judith, very nicely stated as Dandelion said!

As I've watched and read all the heart-felt comments and outpouring of love, compassion and remembrances of Hugh, it has given me and I am sure all Hugh touched, much peace, comfort and strength. It is a true testament to dear, gentle Hugh that his message of peace and love has reached around the globe far and wide and will continue to travel touching our hearts and lives. His message will continue forever forward through all of us.

"I'm comforted in seeing all those who have been touched by his love, his caring, his commitment & his wisdom and who will not forget our dear friend." -PeasantDiva

Blessings, peace and love to all,

Very sad, I remember seeing his photo on so many posts. Not even 60, what a shame. :-(

I am one who believes we do not die, we just cross over into the next life.
I believe we never die on earth as long as we are remembered.
Maybe SEN could put an action or a fund in Hugh's name?
RIP Hugh, though I did not personally know you, you don't have this many kind words said about you unless you were a very good soul.

I remember Hugh's thoughtful comments. What a sad loss for the world, that another person of passion and caring has left us; too few, and his passing leaves our world a little dimmer.

While Doug M. is not with us. His thoughts and what we learned from his existence may be of use to those who remain on earth. Thank you for sharing.

Ruth, you speak for many who will indeed benefit from Hugh long into the future, and they in turn will in their way pass his blessing on, "ad infinitum". (PS All of us, Hugh included, experienced typos and lapses of our own key-stroking. Your intent was clear to all, and that's all that matters.)

To those who knew Hugh M. -- Simply I say "I am sorry. May you be comforted, and others too."

You may skip reading the following unless you find it helpful.
To those who Know Jesus as Savior, and did not know Hugh MacDougall: Maybe the following writing will help -- maybe.
To some people his words will be part of their lives -- one is that people who follow Jesus will love others as God will lead them. That many people will have learned this from Hugh MacDougall. That many people did not know of him and his wonderful thoughts on caring and learning about all people until his memorial. This is a gift -- for many a gift from God, and some goals that we share as people who humbly attempt to follow the teachings of Jesus the Son of God.

There are many people who know that Hugh M. was out there with this thoughts and attitudes. --May we pray and think through what (messages) this man has left each of us. Although we did not know him until this memorial, his stated writing and messages will be with us -- as we choose, and are lead by the Christ.

All I am trying to say -- some how people knew that this person was out there -- without even meeting him on-line.
I give thanks for this person. I give thanks for the wholesome impact that Hugh M. had on my life. May there be other people who will rise up to carry on the good work from Jesus the Son of God, The Father, The Holy Spirit, because Doug M. went on to do good in a much better place. This is a mystery. He could be praying for us. As far as I know he is with the man named Jesus who is the Son of God, and with other "good" people who loved Jesus. (Jesus this is what I would like you to say to Doug M. --Some how you were out there and I did not meet you, However I will read your sayings again. Some of your thoughts were similar to mine. i request that God will raise up people to be with us on earth to comfort us where you left for a knew life. After I have lived a good long life I hope that Jesus and I and lots of people and Hugh will have a good visit over the God given Choice to love and learn as Jesus would have each of us. We are People who are human and have the Holy Spirit with us and the divine nature of Christ crucified in us and Jesus the Son of God, Risen to the right hand of the Father in us. We express and live this to various extents and in various ways.

It must have have been acceptable to Jesus to take Doug M. to start a knew life -- for To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Let us -- each individual choose the words and attitudes given to Doug M. --that are now given to us to keep-- that are precious to each person.
Thank You.
If you did not find this helpful please forgive and forget -- agreeably.
If you did and would like to send an e-mail.
The comforter is Holy Spirit -- may each person receive the comfort.
May God give people the grace to accept people of different faiths and/or religions without hurting each-other as much as possible. May people choose to stop hurting each other. May each person keep the peace.
Please keep the peace with this writing.
That many people did not know of Hugh and his wonderful thoughts on caring and learning about all people until his memorial. This is a gift -- for many a gift from God, and some goals that we share as people who humbly attempt to follow the teachings of Jesus the Son of God.

Anyone still tracking this, can you also report this spammer. This is twice this spammer has come onto this thread. This is an Honoring thread, no place for someone to sell their wares.

As I'm back on here, I agree with Patrica, Hugh is not forgotten by many of us. Brother Hugh touched many of us, in a good way, before he dropped his robes and took his journey to the Spirit World. I just wished he was with us longer on C2, to share his kind heart, but he certainly is not forgotten.

Thank you Dandelion for speaking up. I saw the spammer and I have reported him. It greatly concerned me to experience that anyone would use specifically this thread for promotion. It is highly unethical.

Indeed, as you say. We are many who still think of Hugh, and who were happy to know him. He should have stayed with us, we still had a lot to learn from him. But he had more important things to do. I am sure he is occupied somewhere beyond, sending us plenty of beautiful feminine energy, trying to help us balancing the current violent and dominant masculine energy on our Earth. You are a beautiful friend Hugh, and indeed as Patricia and Edward say you will never be forgotten.
