Thanks Edwin! I couldn't agree with you more Kathy, and what makes it even more disheartening (aside from all the death and destruction of the ecosystems that will be further caused worse than it already is), is that the greedy pockets that will be lined aren't even in the U.S.!! If you missed it there's a youtube video on the SEN4earth page.... down a little bit.... and they even mention in that video the uranium isn't for U.S., and the profits are not U.S. based.

Suzanne, the sounding of a bugle was wonderfully fitting. THIS marks the start of a cavalry of caring people doing battle to SAVE a treasure and the life its waters sustain! And as you already know it is a battle I truly believe we can win if only people around the world will rally to help, starting right here with the Care2 people who sign, comment, note, forward to friends, post to Facebook, tweet, and all the rest.

Signed, noted, Facebooked, and Tweeted, just for openers!

This is an extremely important petition and, hopefully, one of many to come. Noted, signed, forwarded and posted on Face Book. For me, these are devastating and disheartening news - national treasure which is also world treasure up for sale. The whole situation is so upseting and if not for the proofs, almost unbelieveble. For example, one uranium mine has had a licence to mine since 1988, they didn't do much but now, wtih uranium prices up, they are going to mine it again - and their licence is still valid ?!? I ask where the Department of Interior, EPA and other suckers are, and who is giving leases or aproving claims on this land? What is this, Alaska at the end of 19th century? As for the Native Americans there, Black Hills all over again, just this time uranium instead of gold and a different state. At least, nobody can move them and openly abuse them this time, but that is a poor consolation if any, what about their health and their tradition? So yes, I agree, it is up to us to stop it- civil society.

Marilyn I have to agree with you. When I first visited the Grand Canyon it was so pristine and there was no commercial buildings. A few years ago I went back and hardly recognized the South Rim with the shopping malls and crass commercialism. And allowing toxins to runoff anywhere is nothing short of criminal. I am very disappointed in Ken Salazar. When are we going to get people in positions of power who actually care about what they are supposed to protect?
Thanks Edwin for forwarding and Suzanne for posting it. Wish I could send more green stars but that little green frog is stingy.

It amazes me how clever mankind is.
It took nature millions of years to create the Grand Canyon. Then along came mankind. We took one look at it and said "Wow! That is truly magnificent and completely unique, lets see how quickly we can destroy it"

We have been given so many wonderful gifts in this world and all we seem capable of is destroying them as quickly as possible. Why? What is wrong with us?

Make a difference, give Love, Understanding and Tolerance. Plant a Tree.

can't sign ... I was an Arizonan over 20 years ... I've floated the Colorado in Grand Canyon. I know that uranium slag is a huge problem on certain Reservations. Yet ... that was then. This is now.

This petition makes it seem that the Canyon itself is about to be blasted to smithereens to get at uranium.

A less inflammatory petition might be of better service.

Surely we never thought for one moment their wasn't going to be another mishap on our Planet, things have been happening in such a rapid force it's devastation to the us humans that have since the beginning of time been forced to overlook these things in the past being they could bring it to the awareness of the right officials to make it better, but now that we have forced our psyche in understanding the reality of this huge Stage were all acting upon we can now begin our finale play being as it may started 50 years
Indeed this is a tragic thing to have knowledge upon this beautiful basin of Mother Earth, her planet has been used and abused far to long to overlook this any longer. But It's a little too late..

When I click on the TAKE ACTION from the link above, it flashes up a box for you to fill in your details, this box does not give you the option to change to NON-US, it only says 'AL' and the option to change States.

The Grand Canyon Basin drains a large portion of the North American continent covering 242,000 square miles in the United States and 3,000 square miles in Mexico. The Colorado and its tributaries drain southwestern Wyoming and western Colorado, parts of Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and California, and almost all of Arizona. Three fourths of the basin is federal land devoted to national forests and parks and Indian reservations.

People and Wildlife alike depend on the region's water, please act!

The National Park Service has warned that already the water in several areas of the Grand Canyon basin is unfit for drinking, swimming or irrigation due to radiation from existing uranium mining operations.
Expecting that more nuclear plants will drive demand for uranium sky-high, mining corporations have recently filed thousands of additional claims in the the Grand Canyon and Colorado River drainage basin that is THE southwest's lifeline!

It drains a large portion of the North American continent covering 242,000 square miles in the United States and 3,000 square miles in Mexico. The Colorado and its tributaries drain southwestern Wyoming and western Colorado, parts of Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and California, and almost all of Arizona. Three fourths of the basin is federal land devoted to national forests and parks and Indian reservations.

It's up to us, the devoted of Care2 and the SEN you inspired, to get this campaign off the ground. We must gain enough forwards, signatures, Facebook posts and tweets to gain the attention of national and international media and environmental and civic action groups!

Thank you for all YOU do, we know the demands are many!

To have to fight SO hard to protect something that so clearly should never have been subjected to abuse in the first place is frustrating, but well worth the fight. When will the people on this tiny blue planet realize that the green we need to value most is not folded up in our wallets?

We can not let them destroy this one of the most 7 wonders of the world. This Salazar with him in it there has to have money involved in it, for this is all that man stands for is greed, He sure do not care nor Love anything that The Great Creator has put here for us to Love and see. So many abomations he has brought upon our County with lie's and deciet. This one he will Not win for we will fight him and win. Thanks all and Susanne, Bette, Dandelion. hugs

Thank you Hester, Milena and Jacqueline and all above and those to follow, and yes Rebecca it is well worth the fight. There is much at stake. The region that is home to one of the world's greatest natural wonders supplies water to wildlife and millions of people. It falls upon us to launch this campaign to protect it. It is our burden, BUT ALSO OUR HONOR.

Mining execs should be forced to live in the places they ruin, with the run-off, contamination, radiation. Then they might think twice about contaminating lands of indigenous peoples and animals, and public land.

Further, the uranium is shipped over the oceans to Korea and France etc- not a safe thing to do. I object!

Our planet is dying. Whether or not we choose to simply accept this or refuse to do will determine its validity. The time to complain without action is long gone. We are in the final moments before the turning point; the time where we will decide to let the Earth and all her beauty fade or if we pick the more logical alternative: living in harmony with all other living things, including one another. Climate change is a huge factor in the acceleration of this Judgment, and we must do ALL in our power to stop this looming disaster that threatens every species known on this planet.
Will the future remember you as one who simply waved at the opportunity for great and necessary change go by, or will you be forever immortalized by a drive for what is right in these changing times?
It is entirely up to you.

As mentioned, climate change is really our biggest threat to life as we know it at this point. We can NOT afford to wait any longer in global action on this issue. Some nations of our world already have, but the one that has emitted the most greenhouse gas emissions in total has yet to: the United States of America. The world will come together on October 10th to "Get to work" on stopping climate change, and in the process show world leaders it's their turn to do the same. There are currently over 1,200 10/10 events globally registered, and more will come as time goes on. You want to be a part of one! Take a look here

Gladly signed and noted. WE must do all we can to save this U.S. treasure. So much of what we have is being destroyed. And with climate control problems, the situation becomes even more frightening. I pray that we can come together and work to help remedy this and other situations that are ruining our Mother Earth.
