After the invasion of Iraq, the U.S. military discovered that rebuilding the country and confronting an insurgency required a weapon not in its arsenal: thousands of interpreters.

For Iraqis and Afghans killed or injured while working for the U.S. military, benefits have often fallen far short of what was promised to them and their families.

This is a war that should have never been fought!

Insurers have delayed or denied claims for disability payments and death benefits, citing a lack of police reports or other documentary evidence that interpreters' injuries or deaths were related to their work for the military. Critics, including some U.S. Army officers, say it is absurd to expect Iraqis and Afghans to be able to document the cause of injuries suffered in a war zone.

I feel very sorry for him/them, truly I do...but all I can say is welcome to America for this is the crap we are all dealing with. A For Profit Health Care system that has run amuck and wants to deny as many claims as is possible, he has just joined the many who fight this same battle.

Transradial and transtibial prostheses typically cost between US $6,000 and $8,000. Transfemoral and transhumeral prosthetics cost approximately twice as much with a range of $10,000 to $15,000 and can sometimes reach costs of $35,000. The cost of an artificial limb does recur because artificial limbs are usually replaced every 3-4 years due to wear and tear. In addition, if the artificial limb has fit issues, the limb must be replaced within several months.

Most every Health Care policies sold within the United States will pay for one of these prosthetics in a lifetime. This also includes children who grow in size. Until we obtain a Universal Health Care in this Country EVERYONE suffers, matters not what they did or did not do, or how innocent they are.

Is beyond me why so many have fought against having Universal Health so we can get away from this For Profit Theivery. Now we have a watered down version that only delights the Theives who will make more money by selling the mandated health care policies OR go to jail and pay hefty fines.

What else do you expect from America? Entry to the US for interpretors and their families who are being targetted has been delayed or refused despite promises to the contrary. Personally, from seeing how good the American government has been to their own people, I'm totally unsurprised by this.
