The case could still be sent to the U.S. Attorney (Federal Court). You need to express your outrage at what has happened and beg the court to hear this case.

Noted. Petition signed earlier, but I have now sent a message to the Louisiana A.G. I would have been outraged no matter where I resided, but I happen to live in Baton Rouge and outrage has given way to incensed. I will be following this matter and doing whatever I can to keep Katrina victims from being further damaged by this callous response to the killing of their canine friends...all most of them had managed to salvage from devastating loss. It cannot go unpunished.

Here's just one of the footages shot by Pulitzer-Prize photographer, David Leeson for the Dallas Morning News.

Notice the black lab at the beginning of this video-- how friendly and healthy he was; a few minutes later, this same dog was shot by Sgt. Minton. He later admitted to doing so ON CAMERA! Even though the lens was not wide enough to capture them shooting the animals, the camera did catch Minton and Englade standing on a truck over the dying black lab with their guns. Also, even without the video, there were several witnesses-- the military personnel on the scene, bystanders, and David Leeson himself whom this new DA did not call to the stand!!!! David Leeson was waiting for a notice to be called for this case but that call NEVER HAPPENED!!

This is a travesty!! Please spread the word-- sign the petition, and especially send a note to the link on my first comment on this thread. Thank you all!! I know with enough people taking action, this case will be re-opened and justice will be served.

Note: the last video footage I posted above was edited-- there were graphic images cut but the unedited version was submitted to the court as evidence by the former Atty. General Foti, a Grand Jury agreed to indict based on this evidence and other testimonies. Now, this same video evidence is called "insufficient" according to the new Attorney General James Caldwell. I wonder if he's just acting as one of the 'good 'ole boys' or if he's related to the pig Minton.

I used this letter to bring attention to reopening this case. Its from the eye wittness himself...ya can't beat that. My note at the bottom.

Deep sigh. Unbelievable. Lack of evidence? Another sigh.

I wondered what had happened to this case. It was supposed to go to trial in November but I never got a call from the state. I assumed it was postponed. But I had also heard about the change in the DA and rumors that it could affect the case. And, so it did.

I'm sorry. I wish I could have done more. If I had only followed up that very day by returning to that neighborhood to shoot more, it might have helped. If only my footage of the black dog that I photographed trotting alongside our vehicle as we were leaving had turned out. I thought the tape was rolling but it was not. It was this dog that caused me to stop to let him catch up so we could feed him. I would have missed the shootings entirely if not for my desire to feed this beautiful dog. On my tape not included in the edited version" - I say, "I was going to feed that dog," and then you hear my colleague say, "And they shot him." I've always wished that tape had been rolling because it would have clearly shown that this was a very friendly animal simply looking for some help.

David Leeson

NOTE: This is 1 among many eye witness accounts of this cruelty. Not enough evidence? This case needs to be reopened and justice served.

I don't under stand one thing........ why didn't the people take their animals with them to begin with? I'm sorry, my babies would go with me - even if that meant being on the streets, homeless with my critters! I don't understand that! If you have time to write a note on the wall begging to save you animal then you have time gather you animals to carry with you!

I have family in South Louisiana! I recall my Aunt Shirley having her dog lady with her during this time! Sorry I will never understand the owners I guess.... Hurricanes you know in advance pretty much which way it's heading .... we all knew in my family [and friends] it was going South Louisiana -- why they fled North WITH THEIR ANIMALS!

Animal cruelty this is! Shooting all these animals was damn sure NOT RIGHT! I just don't understand why the owners leave their animals?! My family never did!

signed and noted, OMG!!!!!!!!!! I watched many shows on tv, showing the rescue of dogs from the Katrina disaster and they went to as far away as Canada. How and why did this "scum of the earth" and others get away with this? This is heartbreaking, how can MEN be so heartless? What in their life happened to make them so that it was ok to do this and the sleep like a baby afterwards. PLEASE all who live in that area, PLEASE get this reopened and dealt with properly.

My sentiments exactly, Lamargo!

Terrah, to understand what happened, you can read this report from ABC news: "Katrina Pets Executed":

None of the evacuation facilities admitted animals. There were many residents who did not want to leave their animals behind and chose to stay in their homes. Some sought refuge in the schools as in the 3 schools in St. Bernard parish where the massacres took place. Days after Katrina hit, rescue officials came for these residents and forced them to leave their pets behind (some even at gun point). They were promised that they will be back to save the animals but this NEVER HAPPENED. In the ABC report, it was said that some of the pet owners overheard one of the officers saying they'll have 'good target practice tonight.' The owners were reluctant...hence some of the writings on the walls.. but under pressure, they had no choice but to leave their beloved pets.

We can't let these scums get away with this. Please please SEND YOUR COMMENTS AND REQUEST THAT THIS CASE BE RE-OPENED. There are many more eye-witnesses that came forward. They didn't think to come forward before as they thought this was a clear and shut case.

Sadly signed and noted! This is pure evil and sadistic! Who gave the orders? Who initiated the orders? Too bad a dog wouldn't pull the trigger on the ones who pulled it on them and initiated the orders! This IS NOT JUSTICE! These people who murdered the dogs should get the stiffest sentence possible for the crimes they did and the lives they took!

Nadia - thank you!!! I was very confused as to what really happened. YOU ARE THE FIRST TO EVER EXPLAIN IT TO ME! Believe me, I read crap stories in the papers, I hear all kinds of junk - so much rumors you don't know half the time what is real and what is phony.

I have I have sent in my request and comment in earlier! - yes I do want this reopened! Shooting those animals is flat wrong! Not getting them back to their owners is Wrong! The horrible treatment they received is wrong! I don't like what has happened to the pets at all! This is why I'm ranting and raving!

As Dusty Ravenwolf said "There was NO reason for this to have happened! People need to be held accountable for their actions" The killers need to be brought to trial and convicted - JMHO!

My confusion came from the pet owners themselves. Now this I sorta understand.... I don't know - guess I just feel so strongly that if you turn down my pet - you turn me down! I'd have to find away to save my babies. -- especially knowing the hurricane is coming I could - somewhat - prepare in advance.

I used to live in South Louisiana and South Florida. 2 years in South Louisiana and 4 years in Florida. So I can understand prepare for hurricanes - they are tracked! And for the most part, the forecasters can tell us exactly where and when it will hit - that true! .... And, as I've said, I've got family and friends still living in South [and North] Louisiana - even friends still in Florida.

Pets are no different than children - if a place said you can stay but your kids cannot - would you allow your kids to stay behind while you're safe? NO - why is all treating pets different than children? Pet owners should love their pets as they do their own kids. But maybe I'm just insane for thinking of my pets as my own kids. And I cannot leave my kids: Human or Animal behind to die while I'm safe -- either we're all safe or we all die together! Screw leaving my own kids behind - again: KIDS - animals or human!

Shelters turning down pets are to blame as much as the killers or shooters! ...... this is freaking wrong! Something has to be done - so this will never happen again! I saw the tape... these animals we NOT put down in a humane away first off - the video show me that. Next, those pets should have been brought back to the owners. I realize alot of pet owners do not look at their pets as kids but as animals. - I can give a long rant on this one! Point is: Those that see a pet as an animal and not as a kid still should have their animal back.

I hope this is clear - I'm ranting about the abuse and horror the animals had to face before their deaths. This angers me to no end!

Thanks much Nadia for helping to clear some of my confusion up and for this post!

New Orleans has been ranked as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States to live in or visit. The Police Force of New Orleans has had a tarnished histroy of miss-conduct for many years. The Mayor of New Orleans is an Inept politician who only got re-elected because of his skin color.
If this murder of helpless hungry dogs goes un-punished, them we should use the power of numbers at Care2 to start a Boycott of New Orleans.

Dear Nadia, I was unaware that this had ever happened. I made myself watch the whole video, in order to try & witness & maybe somehow lessen some of the pain that these poor, sweet & innocent animals had to endure. I am heartbroken! Not that one can go around comparing such tragedies, but to deliberately shoot these animals one after another like that... that's even more heartless than what those monsters did in Puerto Rico when they threw those innocent animals over a bridge! I will sign & 4ward this petition as soon as I finish writing here. And I will also send a letter. Unfortunately, this case of incomprehensible cruelty is not just some isolated, freak occurance. Not only am I 1st & foremost OUTRAGED by the cruelty done to these beautiful animals, BUT... I strongly believe that this was also a practice run/training for police & military personelle to perform more unconscionable acts. This court case needs to be carried out, not only for the animals here, but to show the Authorities that WE THE PEOPLE will NOT tolerate this! Everyone, plz PASS this petition on FAR & WIDE!! The powers that be want to distract us: with TV, ads for more & more things that we "need", meaningless news stories about celebrity meltdowns, unedifying & violent movies, by pushing many unnecessary prescription drugs that make ppl less able to respond to things like this tragedy, distracting & traumatizing "psy-ops" like carrying out 911 deliberately to scare us into giving up our freedoms ( see & google & watch the excellent film 911 Mysteries. Or order the DVD at the website) etc. There is a small but powerful group of Global Elite, headed by the obsenely wealthy David Rockefeller, who truly want to create a fascist, global Gov't / Police State. Money is no longer a high for them: they want POWER. Sounds crazy I know, but this is documented fact. Katrina was a test run for "creating order out of chaos" in a cruel & fascist manner. The Military, who's technology is at least 50 years ahead of the mainstream, already HAS THE ABILITY to STOP hurricanes, & they did so, many times, in Vietnam in the 60's! The pilot who did so has gone on the Alex Jones show to talk about it. ( see INFOWARS.COM or Listen to the Alex Jones show noon-3 eastern at ( We The People Radio Network) or streamed all day at a link at Katrina was deliberate. They could have stopped it. But they wanted to see what they could get away with while using trauma in a disaster as mind control. If you don't believe me, go to youtube & type in "Endgame trailer" to see the trailer of the excellent film ENDGAME, which is all about the Globalists, the New World Order, & the Bilderberg Group ( very powerful & serious group, w/ members like Henry Kissinger, etc). The trailer is a few minutes long, just to show you what the film covers. You can order the film ENDGAME: BLUEPRINT FOR GLOBAL ENSLAVEMENT at ( great site to chk out anyway, w/ very important info there) or at . They are making great progress in creating a North American Union which would end the United States as we know it, towards Global Gov't. And only an educated & informed public can stop them. Vote 4 RON PAUL. He's still very much in this race, but the media ( corporate owned/Rockefeller owned) has blacked him out cuz he is NOT part of the Global Elite. He would bring REAL change & RESTORE our Freedoms. He is a modern day Thomas Jefferson who in 10 terms in Congress, has NEVER voted for a Bill that was Unconstitutional ( for that matter, he's never voted 4 a raise for himself. He's the only honest one in the bunch!). They don't even TEACH about the Constitution in the Gov't ( public) schools anymore! They are eroding our Constitutional Rights. Ron Paul maintains HIS Oath to protect the Constitution. He would also stop feeding the Military Industrial Complex/Police State, & bring the troops home immediately, & put those now wasted trillions of dollars to good use here at home.
I am beside myself w/ grief RE these animals, & something MUST be done. But we must all WAKE UP & go deeper, to the heart of these never ending episodes of injustice. Let's all join together in MASS peaceful resistance. That is the ONE thing that these criminals can't handle. Keep getting the word out! There is a whole Movement in this country to do just that. There is The Patriot Movement ( don't worry. it's nothing like the Ill-named "patriot act"). There is The 911 Truth Movement, and more. Plz educate yourself by going to following websites :
GOOGLE & watch : 911 Mysteries , America: From Freedom To Fascism , Endgame: Blueprint For Global Enslavement.
on youtube chk out : "Bilderberg Group" " New World Order", "Council On Foreign Relations" ,
" North American Union" , "FEMA Camps" , "REAL I.D. ACT" , "Alex Jones" ( interviews), "Aaron Russo" ( interviews)
& "Ron Paul" ( speeches).
Let's take this Country back, & prevent more death, trauma & heartbreak before it's too late.
Come to the March On Washington this June to support the RON PAUL REVOLUTION!! ( exact date still being worked out). Sign up for info at or
Let's join together for Peace, Freedom & we can be free & NOT be separated from our pets & other loved ones. Thanx for "listening" here. I usually just leave brief comments on animal petition pages, but I just HAD to speak up here RE the CAUSE of these outragious acts, so we can prevent them from happening. Working & hoping for a better world, Liz

I had already the petition and I just sent my outrage to the Pasado Safe Haven. I truly believe the US Court turned a blind eye to justice to protect DSO Minton and he should be removed from law enforcement because he can't make valid decisions. The judges in that court who voted to drop this case, should also be replaced when wrong is right and right is wrong, it is a sad day for our country and most of our problems lie with that statement.

how can they say insuffiecient evidence!! The guy admitted to doing it, last I heard if someone admits to killing a person, that is all the evidence they need!! What is the difference in this, just because they aren't human? This is a disgrace! Noted and signed and I will be forwarding this...this is an outrage that needs to be stopped

The officers stated it was for humanitarian reasons, thank goodness it was not children. To shoot tied up dogs is a very low act. For trusted members of the community who are there to serve and protect to shoot tied up dogs is the lowest of acts and shows the demeanour of these individuals.
These hurricane victims who were beeft of everything except themselves and the clothes on their backs also lost their pets, members of their families. I am sure many are extremely traumatised by these 2 officers actions. They need to be brought to justice and jailed for this cruelty and inhumanity and total disregard for ALL living beings involved in this crisis. They had no regard for these trusting and dependant pets and certainly no regard for the people who owned the dogs who were in severe crisis and then had to contend with seeing that their dogs had been shot and many judging by the photos had bled to death so the shootings were not at all humane and in fact were callous and cruel. These 2 officers are a total disgrace and should be stripped of their badges at the very least.

the blatant undignifired behaviour of the person who committed the shootings on poor helpless animals and the cruelty and blatant disregard for the suffering of the animals and owners of these animals is simply unnaceptable ina civilized society which we strive for. to release this man of all culpability is shaming all animal lovers the justice system and the katrina survivors. it is fraught with the wrong kind of ethics . i am simply ashamed of the presiding jusdge and you have dishonoured the memories of these beloved animals

Signed, forwarded and letter sent.

I managed to take all 5 of my large breed dogs with me in the evacuation here for Rita. I was fortunate. However, NOT ONE ANIMAL left behind in my town was shot for having the friggin audacity to have survived the hurricane! NOT ONE!!! Many were rescued by the cops, nat'l guardsmen and locals who couldn't get out. Our cops did not go around using people's pets for target practice!!!! This just completely disgusts me to the core!!! My God.

Nothing has sparked the fire within me such as the Katrina pet killings. Dogs and cats "fortunate" enough to survive the disaster, lost and scared desiring nothing more than to be re-joined with their family. Only to be murdered for personal sport and pleasure by ignorant "red necks". Then to top off the worst case of animal cruelty in US dismiss charges against these insects by the local "powers" that be (more "red necks").

The ignorant has absolutely no concept whatsoever of what pets mean to those who love them. When the ignorant are in charge of prosecuting the ignorant...exoneration is so frequently inevitable. Damned sickening, though it is far from over. Justice shall prevail. The Wolf

Noted and signed. Also commented on the actions of the officers. Not only are they ignorant, they are cruel and mean and a police department doesn't need to have people like this working there.

Noted, signed, commented, wrote letter.
If this DA wasn't satisfied with the evidence a Grand Jury accepted, he should have looked for new evidence to reopen the case. Isn't it like this that USA's Courts work? That man is a disgrace to the profession. he discredited himself and all of his colleagues who ever judged a case envolving law enforcement agents. It's disgusting!

Quite disgusting indeed, Maria. But yes, unfortunately this is very common in the way the "judicial" system works in the US. Actual justice, is too often blind, deaf, and ignorant. But rather than myself labeling the DA with making an ignorant decision to ignore such horrific acts of animal cruelty...seems more to me an apathetic decision on the DAs part, and that he actually condoned such acts of monstrosity as "good ole boys just blowing off some steam". Which, to me, the deputies involved in the acts...had a powerful accomplice, who might as well have been out there killing dogs along with the other two insects.

I think what they did was horrible and undeserving to those poor animals. They deserved to live just like the people. There was no reason for the actions they took and they should be held accountable for animal cruelty! That just breaks my heart to know that there are people out there who think animals are just useless things.

Wicked and ignorant people who do not observe the sanctity of life wll at some point get what they deserve. To not prosecute is a lazy misguided miscarriage of justice.Too bad it wasn't the prosecutors dog, then maybe there'd be a different decision?
