The aisles of most American grocery stores give an overwhelming illusion of choice. A closer look, however, quickly reveals that most of the meat, grain, milk -- and even the grocery stores themselves -- are all controlled by just a few corporations.

Please take action and sign the petition!

The Letter:

Dear Attorney General Holder and Secretary Vilsack,

I am writing to thank you for taking seriously the concerns of family farmers, rural advocates and consumers by holding workshops that address the lack of competition and excessive market concentration in our food and agricultural sectors. For too long, unchecked corporate mergers have been allowed to put the profits of a few agribusiness corporations above the interests of public health, rural economies, and consumer fairness.

As a result of decades of increased consolidation of America's food system, our nation's food is less safe, more vulnerable to food safety outbreaks and our environment more polluted. Even worse is the destructive impact this corporate influence has had on the ability of our nation's family farmers to stay on the land and earn a living. Family farmers and rural America remain the backbone of our nation, but unfortunately, as a result of years of corporate influence over our food and agricultural polices, rural America has suffered depopulation and underemployment, burdensome debt and lack of real economic opportunity.

To renew our faith in America's justice system, create opportunities for family farmers and farmworkers, and rebuild a healthy fair and nutritious food system, our nation's antitrust laws must be vigorously enforced without bias. I urge the Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Agriculture to thoroughly examine the control of our food system and take immediate action to address unfair practices.

Thanks for posting this Bonnie. we have to keep at them to protect our food supply. Otherwise, they will be culling the population to suit their needs. How long will we let them use us as guinea pigs?

Signed, with thanks to you, dear Bonnie!

Thanks, Bonnie. A friend had forwarded this to me already, which I signed and tommented, but unlike US elections, the "Vote Early, Vote Often" aspect won't allow me to re-sign the petition. Dang it.

Thomas: Ha! Too bad we can't "Vote Early, Vote Often!" Well, I added my name to the list, too, so at least we can spread the word.

Big Business ran our country with great assistance from the Bush Administration. We want miracles. We expect President Obama to undo in 2years what the Bushies did in 8. It just doesn't work that way.

Eliminating lobbyists should be our No. 1 priority, because, nothing will get done, until they are G-O-N-E, GONE.

Charlene, you are so right, the lobbiest wars need to stop, hey have passed to point of treason, for hey have divided these once unied states!
Anyone that sends money o these tax free divisionaries are supporting social terrorism, and destroying our nation
Yes America has been bushwacked, but it startted long before JR stole the presidency! George SR was direcor protem at the time of J.F.K.'s assassination, and apprent death of the constitution!
he civil rights movement has turned out to become another civil war or an extension of the first one because it has been orchestrated in part from the southern churches, of which are the remnent of the confederates who hid in the church to avoid paying compensation and taking responsibility for their prior actions!
T he only people that should be tax free here in America, should be each and every person living at or under the poverty leval, because everyone else seems to be profitable!
