More than 1,000 guinea pigs and rabbits were burned alive yesterday when a blaze swept through a pet breeding farm. The animals were trapped inside their cages when the barns that house them caught fire in the middle of the night.

Posted the following o the news site: "Certainly those that choose to earn aliving from breeding pets should make adequate safety arrangements. Clearly barns full of highly combustable material present an obvious fire risk whatever the initial cause! Allowing animals to be burnt in this way is irresponsible! Clearly there is the ethical principle of contributing to the overloaded animal shelters of the variious animal welfare charities by breeding any animal for the pet trade, when perfectly healthy animals are being killed and sent to landfill by the lorryload! No doubt those who trade in animals have no concern for the ultimate fate of their product as it is likely just a commodity to them. The poor inspection and lax licensing of these establishments is something that needs addressing by government. Continuing to turn a blind eye to puppy and cat mills and all the other animals that are bred indiscriminately places the lives not only of the animals at risk but the fire officers who have to attend such incidents!"

This is exactly why we should not allow en-mass breeding of pets. I'm sure the owner was upset she lost her profit in the fire.

They should not be breeding these poor animals, because the owners where not responsible enough to prevent this from happening.

someone said one good thing that has come out of this is, that the building is burned down and that they will not be able to continue to breed them. Many are forced to be breed, and it is enforced rape and then what happens to the poor animals. Spend their lives at the non merci or merci of humans?

These breeders make me really angry at them, for making money out of these animals. It is so wrong and they were all locked up and doomed to die. GRRRRRR
those owners should be punished for what they did even with their neglect. It should not have happened.

There is no room for accidents. I hope they are not allowed to breed these poor animals again. Thank you for the information.
