It's too bad there isn't a better duplicate tracking system in place. I usually use an button to add news to the C2NN.. I should probably check for dupes first. Sorry about that.

I cannot help BUT respond to this one! It inferiates me to no end.... this cops who think they are "above the law" the ones who put the "BAD" in the word "BADGE"...
I'm sure they could have thought of something more "humane" to get control over this woman in a wheelchair? My Lord, who are they to become such monsters as "public servants" as to resort to "torture, cruelty, brutality" and so on, on US??? We are the taxpayers who pay these so-called "peace-officers"?

The following statements or piece from the above article just demonstrates how ignorant these cops/police had to be... she is in a wheelchair! DUH! where is their training? their compassion? thier balls? this is a woman in a wheelchair, not like a rabid animal, she can be avoided & calmed down, HAD THEY TRIED to remain calm & get control of the situation WITHOUT resorting to their legally given right to USE unessarry force on US, and they are not & cannot be held accountable... Thanks to the supreme court & their rullings..

from the article ..Officers said they arrived to find Delafield in a wheelchair, armed with two knives and a hammer. Police said the woman was swinging the weapons at family members and police.

BUT, this really is an incredible display of abuse! They could have just stood by and let the woman wear herself out. What a bunch of chicken s**t cops!

umm i feel sort of weird posting this since it goes against everything everyone else has said BUT.... she was armed!!!!!! and she was schizophrenic!!! have any of you dealt with an armed schizophrenic??? Its a very dangerous situation. Now, i dont understand why the family is suing the police department, they are the ones that called them in the first place fearing for their safety. now i dont think that the lady should have died and im sorry for that, but how is that the cops fault? just becuase shes in a wheelchair doesnt mean she cant be dangerous.

The amount of voltage in these things should be reduced to a much much lower level............The human body reacts in various ways to such shock to the body as well as the mind!!

Overkill. tasers are dangerous weapons and this was not a situation in which it was accpetable to use them

If she had been armed with a gun it might have been necessary to use tasers, but not at that rate. But she was armed with hammer and knives maing it quite easy to stay out of her way as her obility was severely limited..

And yes, I have dealth with schizophenic people in aggressive moods.

This is an abuse of power!

I doubt that she was going to get up off her wheel chair. This should not have happened. Truly a sad story. Those tasers are dangerous and very very painful.

Lovebug Honey, I've been there too. And Russ Bryan, how nice of you to repond to Lovebug's comment. I have noticed that at certain times during the day, there are more readers than at other times. I've submitted many stories with low numbers on the notes only to find the exact story from another web site, the next day getting tons of notes. It happens. And you will notice that some stories are "cold" by the time they reach "Front Page." It happens too. It is the system.

Back to the story, tasers are being way too over used in my opinion. There was a homeless woman in Aspen who was digging a sweater out of the dumpster and got tasered during her interruption by a police woman. (The owner of the clothing store didn't mind her digging in her trash!)
