A dozen rogue pigs escaped and ran around the M11 motorway near Harlow, shutting it down for hours, after a lorry carrying a consignment of 82 pigs overturned.

I was watching the news about one PIG stopping cars of the freeway and then got away, only to finally be caught, that was a happpy ending!

Wonder if that was the same only had one pig though this is just horrible...I hope the injured pigs were helped, but goodness they were probably on their way to some horrible place for food. GRRRRRR

HOW SAD.I can not bear to see trucks carrying live animals.I get a sick feeling in my stomach.A couple of years ago I saw a tractor trailer crash in the canyons in Arizona,USA .The truck was carrying sheep and goats. The truck was on its side and the sheep were still inside piled on top of each other ,suffering and dying. The goats were running around as they were in a smaller compartment built under the main truck .The most horrible sight I ever saw.And the ones who lived got rewarded by being send on their way to the butcher shop and death anyhow.

Yes Peggy. Animals in transport - when there is an accident it is a nightmare, I will never forget. And the police have no idea how to catch them and the police sharpshooter who was called in to our "steer escaped onto the motorway incident" shot it and shot it but not once in a vital site and it was horrible to see it suffer for so long.

This is the effect of centralising slaughterhouses if it is not bad enough to kill animals in the first place subjecting them to hours of confined travel in the back of a truck which is only designed to carry freight and not live beings anyway just adds to the cruelty. Animals should not have the added trauma of transport latched onto their sentence! The police rarely know what they are doing anyway and it is usually the fire service that cope with any emergency before the police have filled in their forms!

I think the horror in this is that they were probably saved only to be transported to the slaughterhouse. What kind of rescue is that?

yes i wonder where the pigs were going the story doesnt tell us. i assume to slaughter. it is a shame that these poor pigs were properly terrified and yet excited to be free to roam if there were from a factory farm it would most likely be thier first time ru nning free
i wish the story would have told more details

I think the way we transport animal headed for slaughter or over long distances needs to be revised.

Lil Judd has said it all for me. The whole thing is deplorable. Can you imagine if it was truck load of people, oh, different story then.

A consignment of 82 pigs. Headed to where? Vets on hand to make sure they arrive in one piece at the slaughterhouse? "The bacon got saved" as per comment by the potograph.

Who are the pigs here??

Thank God I'm a vegetarian!
