What would happen to the Earth if humans suddenly disappeared? Alan Weisman's "The World Without Us" is a fascinating look at the damage we've wreaked, and how long it would take nature to recover.

"It all falls apart," or it gets much better...

One day We may be gone, but the Earth will always survive and renew itself. It was working before we came along and will work after we are gone. Our Sun will grow old one day and that I believe, will finally destroy Earth.

As much as I would hate to admit it, earth will survive and do much better without humans.

It might be earths only chance of survival; GET THESE DESTRUCTIVE HUMANS WHO SHIT IN THEIR OWN BEDS OFF THIS PLANET! When will she be ready to purge? She's been so good to us despite the lack of respect and permanant damage we've caused, and earth will be healing for many years after we are gone.

Might someone post the article? Most of us really want to limit our subscription and log-on info - get too much spam as a result...

Thank you Peter. Thought provoking as always. The world will never miss us.I am sure we were added as an afterthought.

I've often thought that without humans the earth would have a chance to heal.

Love the book. I can picture all that is written. Can hardly wait for the film to come out. Some movies have depicted similar scenes about the world in the future - iRobot (view of the Golden Gate Bridge broken down), I am Legend (New York with only a man and a dog and zombies). It is now my fav book!

Anybody watch "Life After People" on the History Channel? It is fascinating how resilient Nature is. I would like to see them devote more time to how domesticated animals would fare.
