Are we the only island of life in the vastness of space, or is our Galaxy teeming with other civilisations?

This reminds me of years ago when my father had an interest in ancient aliens being responsible for the pyramids, stonehenge and other wonders. He felt humans back then were not capable of building these structures. This was before 1977. It was an idea proposed by author Erich von Daniken and others. Aliens helping us, contacting us or creating the human race...hmmm...and then there was the pyramid power idea.
There might well be life on other planets, but does it necessarily have to be similar to us? Could even be something like bacteria rather than little, green men. =)

I believe in other living beings in the universe. Why should we think we are the only living beings in the Universe?

Noted. Thank you for the interesting article. I believe other intelligent life exists in the Universe. The vast distance between solar systems in our galaxy and the almost unimaginable distance between galaxies will make it very difficult for us find that intelligent life.

Noted. Thanks, Ray.
Wasn't this what the book & move "Contact" was based on?.....although fictionalized, I think. Soooo interesting! In the vast universe, I consider it impossible that we are the only living things.

Why the big silence? If they monitored our radio waves, they may have concluded "no intelligent life there."
