Fed up with a booming coyote population, some California ranchers have taken matters into their own well-armed hands.

Didn't see any petition for coyotes, only the story. Did however sign for Michigan wolves and the gray wolf.

Noted; I would have left a comment on the sit but their comment system is useless, based on Farcebook which I refuse to take membership in. To control the coyotl population, re-introduce wolves.

Amazing that there isn't a killing contest on illegal aliens, or is that already in the makings? I'm sure there are plenty of people that would love to plunk down a few bucks to do so. They aren't content with the ping and shatter of shooting a can or bottle...if it splurts blood and twitches in death throes all the better (sarcasm).

I would much rather have coyotes in my garden than rodents. Each has a place, but the rodents do a lot more damage. If we just left the system alone, it would balance itself.

Noted and signed the pledge for the coyotes. People buy the land and must have the knowledge that coyotes are in the area. They were there first - and why don't some of these ranchers get a donkey, apparently they make a lot of noise when danger is around and have a heck of a kick.
Thank You Kelly.

I hate it when gun-toting idiots with no knowledge of ecology go on killing sprees and call it conservation. And I can't remember the specifics (mammalogy was a while ago, and I can't find my notes), but I seem to remember something about drastic reductions in coyote populations in a given year (for example, these mass killings ranchers love so much) resulting in higher birth rates the following year. Population biologists are puzzles as to how exactly the females' bodies "know" when to produce larger than average litters, but the fact remains: if coyote population densities in a given area were high in a given year, females will give birth to smaller litters the following year. Low population densities or a high mortality rate will result in bigger litters. If these morons would just leave them alone, natural factors--competing predators, scarcity of food and water, availability of natural prey--would regulate the populations just fine. Actually, if you really wanted to lower coyote populations in California, re-introduce wolves to the area. One of the reasons coyote populations rose so dramatically during the 19th century is because they were able to expand their range by taking over territories left vacant by the elimination of wolves in so many areas.

Shameless killing of a natural predator. Gagnon and his band of "hunters" should face fines for their actions.

BTW, I didn't see any petition to have this stopped???
