Would anyone consider taking home the dog who has already given the majority of her life to someone else? Is there just one person who might consider offering Alyssa a spot in their home - a place to rest her paws for the remainder of her life? HER

How horrible and bewildering for her! I hope there's an angel out there to take in this elderly dog and let good karma triumph over bad.

That is disgusting. And yes, I would take her. if she were nearer. I have had old rescue dogs, and they lived in luxury, or that is want the rescue people said when they came to do the house inspection. I would welcome her with open arms and she could literally have the run of the house, and she could even sleep with me, if she wanted! Maybe they dumped her there, because they could not take her to the vet to be put to sleep, and thought that the Animal Control would do it for them. She is such a lovely looking lass, i must say, and she still has some good years left. She could make someone very happy. I always try to see also the other side, but it is very sad that she had to go to Animal Control, but I trust they will find her a good, loving home for the rest of her life, or at least I pray for that. Poor thing, I know I would love her to bits!

Is there just one person who might consider offering Alyssa a spot in their home - a place to rest her paws for the remainder of her life?

Alyssa arrived at the animal control facility on May 9.

In order to leave the facility, Alyssa needs just one person to help - but is there one?

Today Alyssa's fate is in the hands of strangers.

After giving these folks the best years of her life this is how they repay Alyssa dump her at animal control! I sure am curious why they did this to an elderly dog when she should be enjoying her retirement in love & comfort! Karma will meet up with those people. I pray Alyssa gets a wonderful loving person to take her home & make her as comfy as possible, she deserves to be pampered in her old age. Thanks Kelly for posting her story.

Henriette you sent this to me and I am typing this with wet eyes. I have my older rescue next to me who is not well and I live here in So. California, haven't looked how far away this place is, but if I had funds I would take her to live here in a second. I treasure older dogs and when I rescued my Girl she had so many problems and I will take care of her and go without because she has that Unconditional Love! When I see an older dog it makes me want to own a large place to have a "Shelter" I would adore that so much.

Don't know how anyone could do this to a faithful pet that has lived with them for all those years. Utterly sickening!!

THIS IS JUST THE WAY PEOPLE GET RID OF THE ELDERLY , THEIR LOVED ONES, WHO HAVE GIVEN THEM THE BEST YEARS OF THEIR LIVES, BUT ARE NOT USEFUL ANYMORE, SO THEY DUMP THEM IN A HOME, TO DETERIORATE AND DIE THERE.TO ME, A FAMILY CONSISTS OF LIVING BEINGS WHO SHARE THEIR LIVES TOGETHER, THROUGH THE GOOD AND THE BAD. THERE IS NO THOUGHT OF DUMPING THEM SOMEWHERE TO DIE, HOW SELFISH, HOW COLD AND INHUMANE TO RID YOURSELVES OF THOSE THAT HAVE BECOME UNWANTED. WHEN YOU ADOPT AN ANIMAL, IT IS AUTOMATICALLY FAMILYAND M UST BE RESPECTED AS SUCH. THIS ACT IS SO LOW, IT HITS ROCK BOTTOM.THANK YOU, SOPHIA THANK YOU, DEAR HENRIETTE.

I agree with you Naomi 110%, but don't worry those that left her there will one day have the same done to them, because everyone gets old and becomes a nuisance to someone else!

None of us have any idea what went wrong with the Alyssa's owner. As long as Alyssa is safe and she can be adopted that is what matters.

I took in a 14 year old Shepard under the same circumstances ... He snapped out of depression and had one great year with my other 2dogs before he passed... this is so SAD WHAT HUMANS DO ...

Maybe the owner was old and died? Just sayin'...

If I weren't over 500 miles away I'd take her. I lost my elderly dog just over a year ago...would love to have her :-(

How cruel, now that she is old they don't want her, they should never own a dog again! I so hope she can be saved. Thanks Kelly.

How can ANYONE just dump off a family member! This is SO depressing. When I adopt my pets from the local shelter I make a commitment to give them the very best home possible for the rest of their lives. To do anything less is beyond my comprehension. Animals have feelings, families and souls, too! Someday, when I get to heaven, I am CERTAIN I will see all the precious animals I have loved and cared for. The question isn't the animals' eternity, but mine, so I had better be a damn good person now so I am worthy of spending my eternity with them.

Maybe her parent(s) passed away. Who would keep a beautiful girl like Alyssa for a full 15 years and then just dump her? SOMETIMES, it's not a human's fault. Most times yes, but maybe not this time. The Animal Shelter Rep. I talked to said she was micro-chipped and well-loved!

How egregious of these people to abandon this dog like this in his golden years! I hope that they get the same treatment when they get older! It is immoral what they did. Why couldn't someone in their family at least take this dog! Shame on these owners and their cruel treatment of this dog.

Thanks Constance. They told me the same thing. The wait is because she was found, NOT abandoned. And micro-chipped. I hope the owners find her and they get reunited. I hope they didn't pass away. This girl needs to be with her family.

Noted - how terrible, I really can't handle all this anymore - I am so tired and drained because of all this cruelty. I am praying that she finds her owners and if not that someone with a heart takes her in so that she can live the rest of her years in peace and comfort.

I do hope this poor darling gets a good home soon - whether it is with her old family who are hopefully trying to find her, or with a new family - my old GSD cross came with loads of problems, no one else would have her, and I saved her life - and she has recently repaid me by becoming a seizure alert dog all on her own! Brilliant! Presumably the darling soul wants to keep the only person who has loved her alive a bit longer! Old dogs are amazing!

our pet are not things,
they are intelligent beings that love us unconditionally, they shared with us many years of our life, the beautiful moments like those ugly, they deserve to leave us in the best possible way
Who abandons an animal is a beast!!!!
noted - thank to Kelly and Philip for the fw

So glad she will go to a new home on 5/20!!!!!! So happy this precious senior citizen gets another chance at a healthy, happy home.

You know Karma is a real bitch and when the sub-humans who dumped her get old I hope they get just what they deserve. What comes around goes around.

this is not the first time i have heard of humans discarding their animals when they need them the most. she is an elderly dog that needs extra tlc, and the bastards who disposed of her will get what is coming to them. so cold and heartless. the humans have no soul, but alyssa surely does. she would never abandon her humans under any condition. i am so sorry for her, so depressed for her and pray to God that someone who has a heart will give her the best years she has left. thank you, kelly. thank you so much for this post.
