Thousands Spared! This year 90% fewer seals were killed in the first three days than they were just two years ago.

I signed!! the first good news I read today. I am really sad today because I have seen some terrible pictures about animal abuse and it made me cry. When it will stop?? But like I said before I will never stop try to make a change. My thanks of the day go to Beatriz Menchen fighting with a hunger strike against animal cruelty in spanish shelters. the world needs more people like her!!!!

This is great news! Let's hope this continues and the hunters finally realize that they aren't getting the support they used to! The more word gets out about this awful hunt, the more people are realizing how horrific it is! Please continue to tell everyone you know so we can get this hunt ended...NOW!

That IS the best news concerning the seals, but I agree with Camilla, the hunt isn't over yet. ONE slaughtered seal is ONE too many. I wish I could spend 5 minutes with those sick, barbaric a--holes hunters and club the crap out of them....

This really is fantastic! I just can't understand those wild clubed human-faced horrendous things jumping in the snow to hunt such beautiful creatures. Pure and insane evil they are.

This is good news. But this slaughter needs to stop 100% and forever. These beautiful creatures do not need to suffer the way they must. Everyone needs to realize how horrific this hunt is. It is also just a sport to some hunters. God Bless each and every seal that gave their life and bless the ones who are fighting to stay alive.

I had already signed the pledge - I am virtually vegan and do not in case eat any fish or seafood, but every signature makes a difference!

Early days to talk of a victory for the seals. I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, want to see a permanent end to this vile annual murder of helpless sea mammals!

Just a thought, but didn't the sea ice break up early again this year?

This may not be totally unalloyed good news & as people have alrady written, the hunt isn't ended for good, yet.

What would really really help in this struggle to help seals is to clarify that what is being criticized is the commercial seal hunt and not the small seal hunt that the inuit people engage in for their own livelihood (which is done in humane future sustainable way). Some people confuse the two, and it is important to differentiate them. If the commercial sealers are given alternative employment then this excuse is also taken away, because the seal hunt is not financially viable and is highly unpopular. In fact it is so unpopular that there is no real market for the so called 'goods' and it seems to become merely a game of numbers where the government sets highly unrealistic quotas and then the hunt is substantially lower because the sealers realize that it is totally futile.

it's taking baby steps, but it appears the message is getting out. Now we need to get government officials elected in Canada that supports the ban.
