This Wednesday and Thursday, the kitchen will put something on the menu so wild, you can only find it in zoos and in Africa. "I've never cooked lion before," Bacon said. "This will be the first time trying lion."

Please, I think serving lion meat is horrible too, but the meat is *not* from wild endangered lions. I read that right here on Care2 so please check your sources again.

ok, seriously this is funny but not...

According to Defenders of Wildlife, African lions are indeed headed toward extinction.. and as you probably know the Asians lions - well there are only about 300-400 left in the entire world.

So Kris, you also argue against what the sickie chef is saying, that lions are wild. If you have a problem with that, perhaps you should contact the CHEF THAT SAID THAT!!

Oh wait, maybe you are just acting along with your DMA friends who dislike me and like to point out any faux errors you all think I make.

Sorry, not playing along.... Choke on this:

I just got back from Africa, where I met with some of the world’s top lion conservationists, and I can tell you from first-hand experience: the extinction threat to these mighty beasts is real.

Just 50 years ago, it is estimated that nearly a half a million lions could be found in Africa. Now lion experts say that as few as 16,000 remain – a staggering decline of more than 95%. [1]

If we don’t take dramatic action right now, Africa’s lions could disappear by the beginning of the next decade.

Take action now. Help stop the import and use of a poison that’s driving lions to extinction by signing our petition to the heads of state in Botswana, Rwanda and Kenya.

Right now, carbofuran – a product that the Environmental Protection Agency says is too toxic to be used in America – is threatening the majestic African lion with extinction.

A quarter teaspoon of carbofuran can kill an individual lion. Less will paralyze this mighty beast for up to a week, leaving a lion or lioness to starve to death or be killed by other predators. A dollar’s worth can kill a whole pride – plus scores of other species that feed on toxic carcass. [2]

Sadly, this awful poison is still sold in stores or used illegally in many African nations to intentionally poison lions and other predators.

Speak out for new lion protections and help stop the import and use of carbofuran in East Africa. Sign our petition right now.

On Wednesday, we’ll deliver our petition for lions to of the heads of state in Botswana, Rwanda and Kenya. We need to collect at least 50,000 new signatures before then. Will you help?

Sign our lion-saving petition now, and then forward this message to a friend.

We have a moral obligation to do everything we can to stop the extinction of the king of the beasts.

I hope you’ll help by taking action today.

All I can say is they show a real lack in judgement in serving meat from a lion!

Maybe they are looking for [bad] publicity.

side note: so far, nobody has been able to confirm that this "lion" breeding to eat farm exists. It would have to be licensed by USDA, APHIS and USFWS.

Can someone even prove to me that this "farm" exists? That it is properly licensed? And where did they obtain the first lions from?

Please do tell, if you know.................

ok, so it's only a one time special for Wed. and Thurs. but they have a whole breeding farm to eat these lions?

This whole thing smells like rotting carcasses.

Echo, Google "Illinois lion farm" & you will get the real story. For example:
"According to CNN, the USDA doesn't inspect or regulate lion meat. And the shipment actually came from a company called Czimer's Game & Sea Foods, a butcher shop just outside of Chicago, whose owner has served a six-month prison sentence for selling meat from federally protected tigers and leopards."
There is no lion farm, just a low-life who needs to do a lot longer than 6 months.

I don't care where the meat came from, the fact that there are people in this land of plenty who resort to eating lion meat is disgusting.

If Jan N. is right then he's breaking the law and we need to figure out who to report this to.

What agencies should this info go to?

Why am I not surprised that this is happening in my, again, disgraced state of Arizona. I will guarantee you that there will be very many people here who think this is just fine, and anyone who says otherwise is just one of those 'PETA nutcases'.

The NRA, hunting groups, and the like, rule this state.

This is plain wrong to be eating lions. It doesn't matter if they are not wild lions they are still lions and they belong in the wild or in a sanctuary. Lions are a symbol of Africa and eating them is plain barbaric. What can I do to petition and make this illegal? What this restaurant is doing should cause them to shut down because it should be illegal. !!!

The source of the meat is irrelevant and just an excuse for cheap publicity by this resturant and it's egotistical chef etc at the expense of a creature who should be in the wild , not farmed for meat or confined to a zoo or circus! The culture of rude stupid and loud mouthed cooks on tv does nothing to ehnce the cooking profession and stunts like serving wild animal meat only serve to reinforce the stupid celebtrity culture of the brainless, uncaring, fur bedecked glitterati! This is so stupid it could have been from Hollywood or Sarah Palin!

Please. We need to get our facts straight. There is no "lion" farm in Illinois! It is not USDA inspected. The USDA does not inspect lion meat. The meat is either wild or it is coming from "pet" lions right here in the US. The restaurant owner is a moron if he believes that lion meat came from a lion farm. The middleman that sold the meat has served prison time for selling meat from federally protected tigers and leopards. He says the meat is a by-product of a "skinning operation." Stories like this make me lose hope for mankind.
Read this article from CNN Money. http://money.cnn.com/2010/06/23/smallbusiness/world_cup_lion_burger/index.htm

May they choke on their "lion" burgers and sue the restaurant who provided it.

If there was such a thing as a "lion" farm...oh and FREE RANGE by the way...How do you raise free range lions? In Africa? The meat must be coming from these private hunting ranches where some idiot's pet big cat is sent after it proves too much trouble to keep and where some moron with a gun gets to walk up and shoot it point blank then take photos standing over the dead carcass, looking all macho and brave.
