"It's not for public safety. It's not for revenue. It's not for dealing with the nuisance bears. It's because we can." Wildlife Commissioner McBeath at WLC hearing, 12/03/10 What audacity!!!

"Because we can" says Wildlife Commissioner (perhaps that should be Commissar!) McBeath, and that idiotic attitude just about sums up the reason for most of America's wars! Sadly the animals don't shoot back!

Unfortunately "because we can has become a lot of americans slogan but that must change. We must learn to live in harmony not only with other peoples but with all living creatures and the sooner we learn this lesson the better the whole world will be. I hope that this enough public outcry is heard that the hunt is cancelled.

“This ruling ... is not the will of the people, the majority of us who call Nevada home,” Incline Village resident Jennifer Hillman wrote to Sandoval.

The nine-member, governor-appointed wildlife commission — which governs the Nevada Department of Wildlife — plans to approve the particulars of the hunt, including a tag quota and length of season, by spring 2011.

Every life needs to be respected to take the life of an animal or to even destroy abuse them is looking for trouble.. As humans we need to protect as many lives we can for our own existence.
Respect life or nature would for sure teach us a good lesson...

Noted and signed...If this happens, that Commissioner McBeath, ought to be arrested, for Animal Abuse, and Cruelty, and be taken out of office...Because we can! What an incredible stupid, and ignorant statement, how can they keep this guy in office? If one Bear is harmed, he needs to pay and his ass should go to jail, for a long time...

Thanks to Echo - that IS the petition.
"because we can" - yeah right, the usual (bombastic?) attitude of all corporates and politicians? Wonder if Obama realised what he let himself in for when 'adopting' the slogan? It's time we help the animal kingdom to respond with their own 'because we can' actions and turn these 2-legged 'beings' upside down on their own ground!

This hunt is just an excuse for people who get a kick out of killing, inflicting pain, suffering. It's a sick thing for people to want to do and those who do it need help mentally. It must be stopped as it's not right to allow people to do that on animals.

Is there no place where the creatures of the wild can go that humans have not claimed for themselves. We invade all their wild places, and then act outraged that they are there. It is going to be a horrible day when there is nothing left alive that isn't human. It is not fair to the generations coming up to have everything viewable only in a zoo or a book.

Everything we do is for us humans but… in the end… it will not be for us… We will have lost our beautiful earth and her wonderful creatures… We don’t need to keep exploiting nature for more highways… neighborhoods and malls… We are the enemy…Today’s greed and temporary profits will be gone tomorrow along with our forests… wetlands… farmlands… and wondrous animals...

New flash from the web site link:

"The Incline Village GID Board of Trustees just unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the bear hunt in and around our community, including opposing the hunt in the the Nevada Tahoe Basin! The room was packed!"

The petition is now closed, and the bear hunt HAS BEEN STOPPED!!!

Anna Borsey (66)

Apologies! It was my computer playing up. At the fourth attempt, the petition did display!

I have signed it - even though it is for residents of Nevada, and I live in England - and I signed it gladly, in the hope that these wonderful animals will be saved against the odds. Sadly, money talks, and the pro-hunting lobby is very powerful!

My comment on the petition:
"It is wrong to murder wild animals simply because they exist. Humans are parasitic; we encroach on every single piece of land on this planet, and then we demand that the animals who live there be "controlled" in order to "keep us safe". Leave these bears alone! Many of us do not want to live in a world where humans are the only living creatures left. Do you really WANT a world with just one species in it? Once you have killed the last bear, the last tiger, the last whale, the last polar bear, the last lynx, the last wolf - then what? What will you kill then?"

Thanks for the additional article TjH. It says that at a meeting in Reno Dec 3-4 regarding this bear hunt 42 were opposed and only20 were in favor of it. So that means that those against it are in the 2:1 majority. Anna, thanks for the update that the petition has been closed and the bear hunt has been stopped.
