Isn't there a board of ethics that can intervene? The Bar association or supreme court panel of judges to investigate these proceedings?

I don't know much about the judicial system, but I know there HAS to be way to prove that Tammy is being railroaded!

What complete and utter lunacy - one person commits horrific abuse on an unfortunate animal-(with overwhelming video evidence) - and is not even charged. One risks her freedom to attempt to rescue the poor creature - and is put through purgatory, charged and faces the real threat of imprisonment! What an appalling travesty of justice - even if Tammy Grimes rightly escapes jail - for it to even come to this is the most monstrous injustice!

Evidence? WTF? what more evidence do they need?
ANIMAL ABUSE SHOULD BE A FELONY... if people get away with treating their companion animals this inhumane, then why should they care about HUMANS being treated with such cruelty?
I say bullshit to the corruption, and urge people to educate themselves & FIGHT the atrocities of our foul legal system....

This is absolutely insane!!!! The wrong person is being prosecuted. Why weren't the owners slapped with animal cruelty charge????? The dog may have died elsewhere but his ongoing condition of neglect was what caused it. What happened to the forensics? Of course, even if it's all evident they're trying to dismiss. Like Anita said, is there an ethics committee of somesort that can oversee it? Do we know the judge in this case? Is there anything else we can do besides this petition-- I'm adding this petition to my profile page btw and forwarding within and outside Care2. Terrible injustice to Tammy. Having read much on the case already, I have a slightly different opinion to offer. As to the court's refusal to dismiss charges, I would like to point out that some wise Judges allow a case to continue in an effort to establish precedence for future cases. I am hopeful that this is one such case. By dragging it out and allowing more public awareness, this is calling attention to several issues that must be addressed. Animal rights, the right to interfere in a case of neglect or abuse. The right to present evidence in support of a defense. Some of these issues are actually constitutional issues.

It is not fair for any one person to be subjected to the long term stress and aggravation that Tammy is having to undergo on this, and on the surface this seems to be ludicrous to allow it. However, if Tammy can withstand this, this case may be instrumental in establishing many future rights as seen through the court's eyes.

This case should never have happened, however, since it has, perhaps in the end this will be useful in any other situations involving rescue of neglected and abused animals and even children.

Tammy is a wonderful caring woman and I commend her highly for rescuing Doogie. I was heartbroken when he fianlly died, but so pleased that he had some time to feel loved and cared for before dying.

I did sign the petition, for the sake of Tammy, and with the knowledge that it will also make a statement.

Thank you, Echo.

Noted, commented and petition signed. Makes me wonder just what kind of man this DA is! To allow and defend an abuser makes a person just as guilty as the abuser. Tammy Grimes deserves to be treated as the hero she is.

Stanley G (118)

Tammy's case is further proof that our judicial process has gone to hell in a handbasket. The problem is that our society compels our Distrrict Attorneys to serve as adversaries against Defendants. The latter conflicts with their lawful duties as the advocate to uphold and/or defend the rights of each citizen.

Good citizens such as Tammy are tangled within the cobweb. The industry of lawyers capitalize on the pain and suffering of victims snared in their nest. The onloy way to truly free them is to tear down the cobweb so that none are trapped. Instead, we offer medical alternatives to help victims to recover from their ills.

The owners of this poor dog should be whipped, until they can't stand, them be put into the care of someone with the same compassion and caring for them that they showed Doogie! This DA is a real winner! If he removes the dog from the case, what is he going to charge this fantastic woman with, making a neighbor cry? The dog is the motive for the kidnapping of the dog... what dog? Oh, I remember, the dog that the DA didn't want in the court case! Bullshit! If he removes the dog's story, he is also removing the motive for the crime! It would seem that he is also removing the witness'.... who were there because they called for help for the dog that wasn't there! I don't see what he is planning but and I would go to Holidaysburg just to see this one! I am going to pull my Atlas out for this one! My bottom line here, DA Consiglio should join the owner's in their treatment! {Damn I use a lot of these !!!!! on care2!}

Woman accused of dog theft issues statement in response to Pennsylvania DA's attempt to bar defense evidence from trial
Tammy Grimes says "Let's make it easy for you—I did it."

Tipton, PA — September 3, 2007 — Tammy Grimes, founder of Dogs Deserve Better, a national nonprofit working to end the suffering endured by dogs who are kept chained or penned for life, today released a statement in response to District Attorney Richard Consiglio's attempt to bar all defense evidence from the courtroom.

An article in Saturday, September 1st's Altoona Mirror states: "Consiglio on Thursday filed a request to exclude testimony during the trial [from]...a veterinarian as an expert witness to discuss the dog's condition," as well as videotape of the dog and any reference to the dog as being 'abandoned property'.

Grimes aided a dog September 11, 2006, who'd lain chained and on the ground for 3 days, unable to stand and without enforcement of existing cruelty laws. She was subsequently arrested after refusing to return the dog who she dubbed Doogie to his abusive environment.

Grimes response to the DA is as follows:

"Mr. Consiglio has stated that 'the Grimes case has nothing to do with canine rights.' On the contrary, this case has everything to do with Doogie's rights—his right to live free of abuse being already inherent in Pennsylvania anti-cruelty laws.

Whether you bar the evidence or not, the fact remains that laws were being broken for at least three days before I got there. Yet you've shown no interest in pursuing cruelty charges against the perpetrators.

It's a shame you choose not to uphold those laws, especially when the Michael Vick case clearly shows that most of America actually CARES about Man's Best Friend. I'm sorry the police force of East Freedom, Pennsylvania and District Attorney Richard Consiglio apparently do not.

My case not only has to do with the right of a dog not to be abused as per already-existing Pennsylvania laws, but also has to do with MY rights—my right to defend myself in a court of law being first and foremost.
If you take away my right to defend myself, which is what you are seeking to do, then let me go ahead and make it easy for you:
I T-O-O-K T-H-E D-O-G.
Throw me in jail.
I will not pay you a dime.

I have the right to defend my actions, and without evidence I have no defense.

This case has nothing to do with theft and everything to do with inadequacy. Inadequacy of enforcement, inadequacy of investigation, and inadequacy of prosecution.

In seeking to convict me, you actually seek instead to cover up your own inadequacies.

I will gladly go to jail for Doogie, and I would do so a thousand times over. I am not scared nor intimidated.Barring my evidence cannot stop it from being viewed by the public, which has happened over 50,000 times on YouTube, as well as on local and national news. You may seek to hide the truth, but the truth always finds its way out.

Doogie's truth is my truth, and HIS truth WILL set us BOTH free."

Dogs Deserve Better ( is a 501c3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Tipton, Pennsylvania, is the 2003 First Place Winner of the ASPCA Pet Protector Award, and currently has over 150 area reps in 38 states as well as in Canada and France.

This is what a friend of mine who lives in Texas wrote to the reporter who wrote this article on the situation:

Mr. Ray, that was a very insightful article you wrote about the upcoming case and trial of Tammy Grimes on dog theft charges.

I'm not familiar with Pennsylvania law, however I know if that incident had happened here in Texas, especially under my south Texas watch, Tammy would have received acclamations and the person(s) responsible for the reprehensible cruelty to that dog would be vigorously prosecuted for a Class-3 felony.

Just thinking; Do you think Mr. Richard Consiglio, the prosecuting attorney, may have his polarity reversed in his thinking on this case? Or his meds may need adjusting?

Thanks and Regards
Mark Crider

He suggests we call them all and keep after them with follow up e-mails.

Please help keep this alive and support Tammy in any way that you can. I know her personally and I would not want to go through what she has had to over this miscarriage of justice. She did what any animal loving person would have wanted to do. Her crime is that she did what many of us are afraid to do. She put herself on the line to stand up for a dog that couldn't stand up for himself. My only hope is that this brings the plight of chained dogs to light and that some good will come of this. God bless Tammy and thank you to Echo for posting this.

Its pretty disgusting when the law punishes someone who tried to save a life instead of the people who caused the negligience that ultimatley resulted in Doogies death. If these officers of the court put half the effort and money into prosecuting real criminals their streets and animals would be a lot better off.
What I'd like to know is - who do Doogies owners know with enough clout to get this case to court?

okay so where is the justice? damn this upsets me to no end.. how can people, much less our judicial system NOT punish the abusers? It is absolutely ludicris that our courts try to punish & make the PROTECTOR'S of abused animals the bad guy, how ridiculous is that?

This judge needs to be fully investigated as well as the entire district attorney system; This case (and there should not be one) just does not add up to any sort of sane judiciall system. Whatever has to be done, whatever we have to do, this must be made public everywhere and the system questioned throoughly. I think that there is corruption that has not been exposed yet as the whole idea of prosecuting Tammy Grimes is totally wrong and the owner should be tied up and starving. I sure am glad these morons are not part of my legislative system here in Ventura County. They are also wasting taxpyers dollars and putting a person I would applaud through Hell! This is one of the most disgusting judges I have ever heard of and I think he needs to be questioned and his answers make public as he is not fit to be a member of the bar.

What is going on here ?! Why aren't the 'owners' of Doogie hauled up for such criminal neglect - this is a blatant act of cruelty, who ignores a defenceless animal left chained lying in the rain, waiting to die - what compassionate soul wouldn't try to help, seeing a dog in such distress ?! :( Why is this case even allowed valuable time in court ? Surely there are for more deserved battles to be fought ? Why now is the trial continuously being postponed ? Tammy needs closure and Doogie needs to rest in peace. The sheer arrogant ignorance of Chief Reilly showing no interest in the fact that the dog had been abused or criminally neglected and that he proceeded to add insult to injury and treat Tammy Grimes like a common criminal is something which should really be addressed. When will justice ever prevail ?!

There is a law on the books if one does not render aid to save a humans life one can be prosecuted for it, and there has been people sent up in just such a case.
So what on earth is going on here when there is proff positive Tammy was trying to render aid, has proof of it and she is being prosecuted for what may I ask????????????????
