Much like their male counterparts, women in the Allied countries were clamoring to get in the game from the moment war broke out.

I saw the movie about the 'White Rose', and read a book about the women on the Russian front, helping the cause for Freedom and Justice from the Nazis. Read, 'We, Band of Angels' (military nurses as POWs). Great reads and very brave women. I had an opportunity to meet and talk with a WASP this past Veteran's day, and she was sharp as a tack at 95 years old. Women from the past paved the way for the future for women to attain status and distinction in the military ranks. And...yes, they kicked ass. BigTime!

Great post, Freya. Thank you for this.

So many times in history women are glossed over, ESPECIALLY in war time when front lines are concentrated on, and little to no thought/acclaim goes to those working behind the scenes.

Awesome article!
