Purvi Patel was bleeding through her layers of clothing when she arrived, alone, at the emergency room in Mishawaka, Indiana on the night of July 13, 2013. "I was feeling very disoriented, weak," she later testified. "I was in pain."

America's undeclared Undemocratic government certainly displays pride in moving it's thought and actions backward. Perhaps it will move back to times when a humane and fairer democracy ruled America---a time when this was legal for so many humane, compassionate, reasons. With overpopulation being one of the top three reasons for the near destruction of Earth and all living, you'd think that this alone would motivate a legalization. After fighting so hard for decades, and having our government declare this a legal woman's right---then having the 1% owned government suddenly sweep through bills in several states that take these rights away---it is surreal. Corruption needs to be removed from our system.

Soon they are going to burn women as witches again. :-( This is outrageous.

Noted. Thanks, Freya.
This is the position that women are now putting put into by twisted and sick reasoning. And, I wish I could say it is only men doing this to women, but there are many women complicit with this extremism. Their ignorance and heartlessness knows no bounds. They have no empathy. And, they are delusional.

An article was placed here on Care2 very recently explaining how the GOP decided to attack Roe v. Wade a few years after it's passage. They enlisted Falwell and bombarded churches with videos and speakers; they began to make sure these anti-abortion groups were well-funded and given high visibility. This is what we are fighting.....a machine.
But, we must continue the fight or there will be many others like Purvi Patel---terrified women, not ready or able to care for a child, with little resources that continue to dwindle.

Thanks, Freya. I feel so sorry for this poor woman. I probably would have done the same thing if I were her. People need to have empathy. Maybe it is easy for me to empathize with her because I grew up in a strict, conservative, "moral" family. I never even went out on a date until I was 25.

This is outrageous. Are we going back to the Dark Ages? If you want more of this happening then vote for the GOP, any candidate in any state for any elected position. If you want the to stop then vote Blue in all political races.

Medical staff found strange for a woman in distress. They later described her as having a “flat affect.” Patel had lost about 20 percent of her blood, and needed surgery for the placenta that she had not yet passed.

Well hello---she had lost a lot of blood she had a flat effect! Certainly someone with such blood loss would have a flat effect.

This is why we need full services for women and Universal Health Care. Perhaps if she had a place that she could of gone for both medical help and women's counseling she may of even made a different choice. A woman living in fear, feeling there is nowhere to go and no place to seek help is left to her own devices. We can criticize, point fingers, and certainly she should not be facing 20 years in prison, but until women have alternatives than being left to flounder around this is what we end up with.

I posted this story when it first happened and I thank you Freya for the update. Universal Health care is first a MUST in this Country. People can not receive counseling help, therapy, nor safe medical procedures. This is a Health CareLESS system, and then when someone is the victim of this health careLESS system the For Profit system wants to punish the victim.

This woman has suffered ENOUGH! Her entire family knows, and most likely are not supportive to her, but I can say for sure, only going on the fear she had. She went through a horrific experience in the loss of the baby whether she wanted it or not, she is being dragged through the criminal system, she has been called all sorts of names, her self esteem no doubt is at an all time low.......hasn't she suffered enough?

Where are all the so called "righteous" ones with their love, compassion, and caring? Release her and give her some supportive help - she will need it - this is not where I want my taxes to go paying for some poor woman to sit in prison for 20 years. Raise her up and perhaps she can use her life experience to help other women in similar situation.
