10 Quotes The Founding Fathers Never Said

Some quotes are garbled versions of what they said that distort their meaning, and some are total fabrications by people who want to win an argument and think creating a fake quote is a good tactic to use.

As Ben Franklin said, "Fake quotes will ruin the Internet." That is one of my favorites.

Most if not all of these can be quickly identified as fake by anyone who knows a little about what the person really believed. Unfortunately people who meet this description are rare indeed.

Thanks for the post, Freya. It just goes to show that people will make things up if they can't make the facts work for them. It reminds me of the game where everyone stands in a circle. The first person says something in a whisper to the person next to them and it continues around the circle. By the time it gets back to the original speaker, it's completely changed. People believe what they want, no matter what the facts.

Thanks for this info. Knew about Jefferson and Franklin's ideas on religion. Didn't know Adams was a Unitarian.
