Close the Loophole in Section 162(M) That Forces Taxpayers to Subsidize CEO Bonuses!

Section 162(m) was a well-intentioned effort by Bill Clinton to rein in executive pay by capping tax deductions for CEOs. There's a loophole in the language, however, that allows exemptions for any pay that is considered "performance-based."

CEOs are really not worth the kind of telephone number salaries and bonuses that some claim is required to keep them performing in their job. . .

Petition signed.

CEO's and their boards must have their pay reduced by closing this loophole. Taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize their outrageous pay. End the exemption for "performance-based" bonuses. The CEO's, the board and the companies must pay their fair share of taxes.

Signed but pessimistic about it. Actually the petition is asking "Too little" and "Too late", in the sense CEOs believe they are worth all that and more. .

Back in 2014, the US ratio was 354 to 1 and Canada was 206 to 1, CEO pay to median employee pay. Disgusting!!!

Took action on Sept. 6th. The Care2 glitch monster would not let me add comment on any posts @ that time, so I am commenting now. I think this is an important factor in the decline of the American middle class & I'm glad that you formed a petition about it. That taxpayers are forced to subsidize CEO bonuses adds insult to injury. Be it known that nothing ever trickles down these days; the corporate elite shamelessly hoard it all for themselves
