Thanks Freya ours have copped a fair bit of criticism lately but at least efforts have been made to improve conditions. We may not like putting illegal entrants in detention but when we witness the trouble an open door policy caused in Europe ,we realize we have no other alternative.

A lawsuit alleges a private prison contracted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) forced immigrant detainees into labor, which is a violation of anti-slavery laws. If you haven't signed here's the petition address:

I've been trying to post a comment that even companies that have contracts to run prisons/ detention centres should be held to minimum (human rights) standards, inspected regularly, fined heavily for failure to respect stringent rules concerning minimum conditions/ standards - and face cancellation of their contracts if they fail to uphold standards (with additional heavy fines for non-compliance).

ALSO - asylum seekers shouldn't be treated as criminals ...

And prisoners should not be treated as slave labour. Against Internation Law ...

With for-profit prisons in America already so bad it is no surprise that the for-profit immigrant detention centers, whose "inmates" have no voice, no status, nobody who will speak for them, are even worse. People coming in asking for asylum shouldn't be imprisoned to start with, but their exploitation and abuse is of no importance to authorities because are seen as slaves without rights. Even their international human rights are simply ignored and they're denied legal council so there's nowhere for them to complain.

The report clearly states: "Since the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump on
January 20, 2017, the situation has only worsened." No surprise there, but perhaps shades of things to come.

This disgusting administration is trying to turn America bit by bit into Nazi Germany in the '30's and 40's. Posted article on FB.

It isn't only just the immigrants that are being detained this way, even for citizens within this prisons that have switched over to "for profit" conditions are horrid. Just this past Oct. I had posted articles about prisoners on hunger strikes across this land, because the food they were being served was rancid and not enough of it to fill the stomachs of the people in there.

And when one is reading about jobs coming back to the USA, the full story isn't being told, many of those jobs are now going into these for profit prisons and detention centers. The Greedy Heartless Ones have finally figured out how to hire workers even cheaper than paying those low wages in China, India, Vietnam and elsewhere - place people in prison and bring them to near starvation so they'll work for a dollar a day.

Whatever one thinks about immigration, undocumented people, or citizens behind bars, we must first of all treat them better than this. They also have human rights, and if you have placed them in a situation where they can do nothing to improve their circumstances then society is responsible to care for them while in the prisons and detention centers.

Most of these people behind bars are not violent criminals, they are in for not having the correct papers, in for having some marijuana on them, in because of debt, in for petty crime. If a Nation has so little regard for these people, in particular the citizens who will remain in these borders, why should anyone be at all surprised if when they come out they are tormented souls who may or may not take it out on those who will be around them, that could be anyone of us.

This is a harsh Nation now, it's beacon is dull and growing less bright by the year, the flame of everything that Lady Liberty stood for is almost out. This Nation should be weeping, hanging it's head in shame, and we are all responsible for things. Those who fail to speak out, write a letter of protest allow this to continue year in and year out.

Thank you for doing your part Freya in getting this out on the public. I wish more on C2 would be equally concerned about the human species as the animal species. If the people are in the crapper so too are the animals. It's how it works.

Does anybody remember the PA judge who went to jail for kickbacks from a private prison? Howmany many judges and prosecutors are receiving the same kind of money?

My bet that there is a lot taking bribes directly or indirectly.
