During a day of sightseeing in Mesa, AZ, Nancy Gonzalez Hidalgo and her husband decided to grab a bite to eat before stopping at a flea market to shop for children's clothes. They had come to the U.S. the previous month on a valid tourist visa.

This is terribly sad and cruel. A rabid dog would be treated better. I hope to hell they get her out of the United States it is so unfair and I hope she has not lost her fertility and soon can be reunited with her family. This was nothing but a downright setup from the get-go. What is wrong with people here to treat someone just because they're from another country like this. My heart goes out to this upright honest woman and her family. I hope she soon can "hug the sky"

Horrendous - the US prison system is shameful (made worse by the privatisation which makes it in the interests of the prison to ensure prisoners AREN'T released)

"....she suffered an early miscarriage in prison.
She was bleeding, but the guards only offered her diapers to help with the blood flow, along with Tylenol to “ease” the pain. Later, she was given towels to wear as underwear, and a prison doctor told her the bleeding was “normal.”

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?

Makes me sick to see and read such horrid abusive actions by these despicable bas*tards. Agree with Beryl and Evelyn.
Thanks Freya

I just did a Google search on the woman's name and got no results other than the original posting on Southern Poverty Law Center's website...if this is legit, wouldn't you think more news outlets would be covering her story? I hate to doubt, but in today's world I'm sure everyone understands why I have to...

Sadly, this is what our immigration system has come to. Her husband was arrested for holding marijuana, which shouldn't even be a crime. Ms Gonzales only wants to go home. How sick that she's treated badly and, as much as we have people in the US who would be happy to see her gone, she can't seem to get out.

What an appalling violation of basic human rights to adequate healthcare. I hope that Hidalgo is set free from the immigrant prison soon. Thanks Freya for sharing and caring.
