Eighty-year-old Clair Butcher has been criminally charged by the city of Lynn, Massachusetts for explicitly breaking one particular city ordinance--do not feed the ducks. Something the animal lover has been doing for the past 45 years!

It doesn't matter whether the duck feeder is 80 or 8--persecuting kind people is misusing tax payer money.

Ridiculous, not to mention outrageous. Even a fine for this would be ludicrous but putting a little old granny in jail???!! Boy, I guess we can all feel safe now that hardened "criminals" like this are locked in the slammer. I wonder who her cellmates were? Probably some kids operating a rogue lemonade stand without a "permit"!!

REALLY? Sounds like they invented that rule JUST to stymie this beautiful soul! Get over yourselves, Lynn Massachusetts people! Heck she's 80! Leave her alone!

There's more to this story than meets the eye. The photo above and the article attached to this news item make it look she just a nice old lady feeding a few bread crumbs to the ducks. However, see: says she has been "bringing shopping carts full of food to the pond." It also says, "The city sought an injunction and eventually made a deal with Claire. She agreed not to feed the ducks anymore. But officials say she repeatedly ignored the deal, which included a No Trespass Order." Seems to me the old lady has turned what once was a nice area into a health hazard.

Just how often did she feed them? Was it daily? Anyway....doesn't the city get paid to clean the roads and paths? Don't the citizens pay the city to do this? Who do these desk jockeys think they are? It's people like her that are paying their fat salaries. Leave her alone. She's been doing it for 45 years and at 80 she hasn't got that long to go. I suppose next the city will be having a duck kill to try and reduce or get rid of the poor creatures.

Bread is not good for ducks and, yes, their dung has germs in it. Not good to have around.
