The sheep apparently had been hiding for years on a farm on the island state of Tasmania and had never been shorn. The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Thursday that Shaun lost 23.5 kilograms of wool at his first haircut.

I feel sorry that this poor sheep was caught. Didn't like the way he was treated especially at the end when they basically shoved him into an awful looking enclosure or prison. Thanks Lone

Poor sheep. He wasn't treated very well. The farmer just wanted a record setter.

Cuts during shearing happen. That's why one verse of "Click Go the Shears Boys" is
The tar-boy is there, awaiting in demand,
With his blackened tar-pot, and his tarry hand;
Sees one old sheep with a cut upon its back,
Hears what he's waiting for, "Tar here, Jack!"

I first heard this in an amusingly hammed up version but subsequent revelations about the artist have made me unwilling to link to that version.

Poor sheep indeed - he was almost blind from the wool in his eyes. Imagine carrying around that weight of wool in summer! Better of shorn.

Noted. I believe sheep are often injured when they are shorn.

I bet that was a relief for him to get all of that weight off and to be cooler in the heat. That had to have been hot and miserable. Not to mention not being able to see. I imagine that was most of his problems after the fact. Trying to adjust his posture and walking without all the weight. Part of me does wonder though if he was left unshorn to try to get the record.
