Allergies and asthma are a continuing health problem in most developed countries, but just how do these ailments develop over the course of a childhood?

Thank you for this article Alisa. We were truly blessed to have three healthy children and my heart goes out to the families with children who battle with asthma and allergies on a daily basis. This research is so important. The article also opened my eyes as to just how prevalent these issues are. I had no idea so many children were affected. I really hope that promoting awareness of preventable factors that lead to children developing asthma and allergies will help reduce the numbers of children suffering from these illnesses.

On January 20, 2010 I was diagnosed with Oral Allergy Syndrome. I lived with allergies all of my life, but last year the number of items jumped from 20 to about 60 allergens. My son was diagnosed with ADHD/OCD and borderline autism in 2007. When he was 4 y.o. an allergist diagnosed him with tree and grass pollen allergy, which I had at the time. Now he is allergic to numerous products. I was a vegetarian all my life and could tolerate fresh fruit and vegetables until last year. My son is following western medicine to treat his condition, and I'm following a traditional medicine of herbs. My immune system is rebounding. Unfortunately, my son is still suffering. Hopefully, he will adopt alternative measures to heal his immune system.
