Quan is calling for the camp to close immediately... "Whether this incident is related to the encampment, or is an unrelated act, it is unacceptable. Tonight's incident underscores the reason why the encampment must end. "

It's war.

If we spent the money on this at home war that we spend on wars that are none of our business,
the Occupy PATRIOTS would have their jobs.

The Oakland mayor has a lot to do on her side, with her police department in particular before she asks Occupy Oakland to break camp. She clearly cannot keep her police department under control, nor the wider socio-economic problems of the city.

Now all of a sudden she needs the Occupy Oakland group to help her keep the peace by breaking up? She cannot trust her own police department to maintain order? The department is in such a sorry state that they cannot be trusted to not draw false conclusions? It sounds like the state needs to take over.

It's a significant problem when a municipal government cannot sustain / support a peaceful democratic excercise without losing control and the fact that additional governent agencies at the state and federal government haven't acted yet is potentially more disturbing.

There will always be people that try to deny the right of American Citizens to have their say, and to demand change. This does not alter the basic facts: America USED to work. The people had work. The system worked. Hey, EVEN the Congress used to work (sometimes). God knows, it was far, far, far from perfect -but at least we all had some share in the struggles AND the rewards. But somewhere along the way, we lost our way. Because now we have an economy and a political system that seems to work only for the rich. What they call "trickle down economics"....leaves most of us out in the cold cold rain. We need to get back to what America was, and what it should be, and what it can be. Occupy Wall Street is no longer just a place called Zuccotti Park - Zuccotti Park is everywhere. You can beat us and arrest us and tear-gas us, you can try to "permit" us to death....but you can't kill an idea. You can't keep down a peopleís hopes and dreams for a better life.....a life with dignity and freedom....for us, and for our kids. More power to Occupy Wall Street, as it spreads to every town and city - because OWS is us, and for us, and by us. It comes up from the grassroots, and it lifts us up in turn. With OWS America has found itís voice, and that voice demands fairness and justice -for ALL. This land IS our land! AND WE WANT IT BACK! We want our LIVES back! We want our FUTURE back! But itís more than just words.... itís more than just politics.... itís your LIFE, and how you want to live it. So why not take some time, find a quiet place somewhere, and consider this: Each of us has only one brief roll of the dice....and many choices. Itís time to risk...and to act. If not now...then when? If not you, then....who? You DO have the power my friend....and the choice is yours. Donít let your dreams die.

Don't let that incident with the police stop "OCCUPY OAKLAND." AND get the police to stop hurting and killing those people. The occupy movement all over this country needs to continue. So please continue it.

It seems the fight against all the Occupy demonstrations are only proving to make it more popular. Will we call this the 'American Spring'? It's time the 1% began to listen and act in defense of 'the People'.

Even though the encapment has no proven or even suspected relationship to the killing, the killing is the reason the encampment must end. !!! Mayor Quan's order isn't just arbitrary and capricious; it defines "arbitrary and capricious."

By the mayor's logic, every time there is a shooting or any other crime, Oakland must be evacuated.

Thanks for the article. Sounds like the mayor is looking for any excuse to close down the encampment. It is horrible that a man was killed, but the protesting was in no way involved.

When they are doing exactly what the constitution allows the protesters to do, the police come in and break the law by attacking them with weapons. The OWS people are doing what they are allowed to as civilians. These police officers need to be corrected. This is crazy when the police don't really know the law by the constitution

Low and desperate cowards!

Mr. Mayor, you get your a-- out there with the heros.

Do you think you're making your big bucks to be the enemy of your state and your country.
