Last Word - I surely miss seeing Bill every Sunday. He is one of the few best minds concerning government today. You know, you point out that Confederate leaders' statues belong in museums, and I suggested at one point that we should take a tip from Germany turning concentration camps into museums, and look at POW prisons to convert. Andersonville of course leaps to mind, but there are others.

Business - So - leaving it wouldn't have stopped the flood, but it probably would have made rebuilding more expensive. But that would be value for money, not just spending for spending's sake (which is all Twitler knows how to do). BTW the WaPo paywall should still be down so we can all se the video if we choose.

Politico - Flood insurance is already not that great. Commercial insurance does not cover flood (or, often, earthquake, but that's another story). It does cover wind, including wind-driven water. Determining what is which is no job for amateurs. Federal flood insurance is the only flood insurance there is, and it does not come with any commercial policy, but must be separately purchased. Anyone in Harvey's area who doesn't already have it - it's too late. Also, the Texas legislature just passed a law which goes into effect Friday which does not change coverage or even payouts, but will affect anyone who has to take their insurance company to court over a Harvey claim. It can't hurt to file a preliminary claim before Friday even if it has to be adjusted later. Here's a petition on that:

Haaretz - Trump probably wishes he could pardon Bibi as he did Arpaio.

Universe - No cat doing "Downward facing dog"?

Last Word: I enjoyed watching Bill speak, these poignant words: "The Civil War failed, it did not destroy this Union, but the losers kept fighting it till they are still fighting it today. Let it go, you lost the war."

BI: Very concerning, he just doesn't care. (dt).

Politicio: I am certain that thousands will be filing insurance on their flooded homes. We certainly need NFIP to help anyone and everyone, not just here in Texas but all over.
Thanks, Joanne for the info on this. Signed petition re: the flood insurance.

Universe: Adorable, just adorable!

Thanks, Lynn for helping TC out today. I gotta run, as I'm helping my neighbor down in the 'flat lands' move back into her house. Rest and get well, Tom, and Thanks Wendy for your help too.

Moyers: “He is the malevolent fury…,” he says of Rumpy, and he is spot on!
BI- Well, this is the “Malevolent fury” in action! What else would;d one expect from a Malignant narcissist? Compassion, rational thinking, consistency? No, this is what you get when you elect(?) a clown to a position so far above his level of competence that up looks like down!
Politico: Funny that Kennedy should mention Pike’s peak, in Colorado…where republican congressmen were begging the Obama administration for federal funds (no “small government” for them, at that time, huh?) in response to a natural disaster, 4 years ago next month!

TLW: What a wonderful soft spoken voice of reason Bill Moyers is. He’s absolutely right that Southerners should aknowledge that this isn’t their legacy; these statues are of the man who fought against America and lost and are the legacy of losers that continue to fight a losing battle. Those statues should be put in a museum with great big plaques on them explaining why they were put up in the first place and why they are now in a museum.

BI: Yes, it was Drumpf who signed this new executive order to undo more of Obama’s legacy of trying to keep Climate Change and the damage it causes under control, and the reason for him doing that may be personal (spite), but he’s been backed, and perhaps even pushed, by the GOP on this from the start whose fiscal conservatism is no more than a front to take the attention away from their true intentions: line the pockets of their masters and themselves, no matter what. In the end the taxpayer is going to pay for the catastrophe, and the ones that are soon to follow, and that won’t include the 1%. And if I were a Texan of a minority group I might not see much of that money coming my way or see much construction work opportunities coming my way either. We need not be too surprised when all the major contracts go to the large, white, companies who’ll then do a substandard job and make a lot of profit, just because Drumpf has just put his stamp of approval on it.

Politico: My, my, do I hear the fear brought on by realizing Climate Change will hit anyone anywhere, irrespective of political alliance, religion or race in some of those Republican voices? And the realization they will be held responsible if this National Flood Insurance Program fails? Only two more days to go, guys.

Haaretz: Why should the relationship between Israel and America be affected now that Netanyahu is under investigation. Drumpf and Netanyahu should get on like a house on fire, they have so much in common!

MU: Even though their litheness makes me envious, they’re all so adorable!

Keep your cool until temperatures drop one more, Lynn, and thank you for a great Open Thread.
