My Ghost Cat was nearly injured by a falling tree last year, so this year I aimed for a compromise.

TY Barb. I've had just a small tree on my mantle for some years so I don't have to worry about our cats getting into trouble. I decorate with strings of small lights over the windows and other seasonal things that are cheery but of no interest to the cats. It's important to think of pets at Christmas time as tinsel and broken decorations can be hazardous or even deadly to our furry love ones.
