Animae, we are angry, but as long as corporations and the 1% are running our country nothing will change.

Saw this on the news after celebrating my grandson's birthday. From heart happy to heart sighs, here we go again.

I don't know what to say anymore except we live in a violent and stupid Nation. We are the only Nation on this earth that has all these mass shootings, done mostly by our own hands, not immigrants. Yet those in DC and the minority gun owners will not do anything to prevent these. Still selling weapons of war, still not one single thing changed from Las Vegas to this day, nothing changed after a classroom of 7 year olds were all killed.

So as I've said before, what is the magic number, a mass slaughter of 1,000 people? An overall yearly count of 10,000 deaths from mass shootings? We sign petitions, we call, we beg, but year after year this continues on.

I'm tired of the leaders giving their thoughts and prayers. That isn't enough.

the gun and ammo corporations control the NRA and have moved on to exert their profit motives onto our foreign policy...horrific copycat crimes will continue as long as guns are allowed in the wrong hands and we permit people to have ones where only during military conflict is there a need for that level of power.

Noted another sad statistic of mindless violence in America My condolences to all who have suffered. The prayers of all of us are with them. I leave the gun debate to others.but when religious fanatics are denied the use of guns they resort to bombs, knives, and cars to kill the innocent as we have witnessed here and in other countries. We are living in interesting times thanks to our open door migration of former years and unfortunately we have to live with them

You said it perfectly JL. The NRA, 1% and Republicans will not allow us to change our laws. The majority of people in the US want stricter gun laws. Thank you for sharing Barb.

Walter, as I stated above it is our own citizens who are doing the shootings, not other people who have recently been allowed in our Country.

In the United States since 1982, white people -- almost exclusively white men -- committed some 64% of the shootings.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/27/us/mass-shootings/index.html

The other percentage was made up of African American and Asian heritage. We have had few people, one recently in NYC, that drove the truck into the bicyclist, from other Nations that kill us. Because we don't take a hard look at those facts, and keep the American people eyes on the false narrative, we can't get anything fixed over here and we keep being killed.

Walter - sad to see you try to turn this into a racist narrative, especially as you don't appear to be a gun-lobby supporter. (I've got used to their conflating gun violence with racism, although from a different angle: they justify "everyone" having guns to "defend" against violent "Muslim terrorists"/ blacks etc ...)

Perhaps you could check out the facts about gun violence in the US?
Religion does not appear to be a factor (although intolerance of minorities does - coloured, LGBT, etc)
A LARGE majority of perpetrators have been WHITE men, "Christian" by heritage.
Although they've hit churches in the last year, one was a Chapel with a Black congregation (& the perp a white supremacist); this time, a white congregation and we don't know why.

Very frustrating for those, like you, who'd prefer to be able to stick a religious (Islamist/Muslim) tag on the perpetrator & call it "terrorism" each time. Have to settle for "mental health problems" ...
Which might be accurate - but also accurate for the Orlando gunman who had much in common with this perp, including a history of family violence ..., and for the NY nutcase. And the others tagged "terrorist" ...

Mandi - maybe one does need better mental health care (starting with for POTUS?)
But also need to keep lethal combat weapons out of the hands of all except those whose jobs really require such arms ... especially out of the hands who need good mental health support!

There really is no reason for the average person to possess a weapon capable of shooting so many times, so easily.

In New York State laws have been enacted limiting semi-automatic firearms to have a clip capacity of no more than seven (7) rounds.

We already have laws against committing murder in all fifty (50) states, and as a federal law.

Is it a matter of upbringing? I was raised with guns in the household and I have owned guns all of my life from the time I was able to legally do so.
I have never had the thought of picking up and turning one of my guns on someone and pulling the trigger; No matter if I was angry or not.

So, I wonder and ask, is it uncontrolled rage due to psychosis or shabby upbringing, or what other excuse?

The only people that new laws will affect are those whom will obey laws in the first place.
These folks are already not killing anyone.
Outlaws, by definition, do not obey nor do they care about laws.

The pretender-in-chief so ironically stated today that there is a "mental health problem at the highest level." - D. Trump - November 6, 2017

I haven't seen one mention of the word 'terrorist' on the news. Maybe because the guy was white?

Because terrorist actually has a definition Julie and it has nothing to do with skin color.

Julie - right on target!

Because use of the label "terrorist" is immediate if there's the vaguest link to people who look "Muslim" ... there's no hesitation to check whether the perpetrator is an unbalance personality with a history of violence and instability.
And THAT, Donn, has a great deal to do with religion/ skin colour!

Yes, there is a definition for the word terrorist, but it's not applied rigorously.
It's "obviously" not applied to white US citizens who probably have a "Christian" background (although the results of their murderous use of arms has exactly the same "terror-inspiring" impact.)

And by such biased use of the term, the media and those is a rush to label sick acts by those of a specific type of background are FEEDING terrorism, spreading fear of a whole section of the population. That is actually racism!!!

A little bit of honesty about (ab)use of when "terrorism" is applied indiscriminately (should I say "DISCRIMINATELY"??) would be a start in countering racism.

I have a question for those who keep telling us that the right to own guns keeps Americans safer.

If this is true - why does the US account for ONE THIRD of mass shootings in the world?
And 2 of the 5 worst cases have been this year!

Are you saying that the US has so many blood-thirsty gun-toting criminals that your terrible record would be even worse if there were more stringent controls (especially over purchase & ownership of weapons really only appropriate for military-type action)?
Hard to believe!

I guess we are also lucky that the majority of gun-owners DON'T come out with guns drawn & firing when there IS an incident - or we'd be seeing a lot of "collateral damage" caught in cross-fire.

How about signing this petition?

Adopt Australia's Gun Control Laws In The USA

Australia was a "gun country" - and THEY managed to shift to a far better control system

Resulting in less gun violence, NO mass shootings since the gun control law went through after the Port Arthur Massacre ... 20 years ago.
(Which, of course, everyone except those demanding the right to tot any kind of gun expected ...)
