Democrats roared their historic approval of a same-sex marriage plank at their national convention Tuesday, thrusting President Obama's re-election campaign into the treacherous cultural divide over gay rights.

Democrats embrace all people, religious or not, gay and straight, married or single, rich or poor, educated or just trying to self educate, newly immigrated to the shores of this country or been here before it was a country. People of color or not, people that just want to live their lives in peace, rear their families with the hope and chance that each generation will succeed FORWARD. This convention is off to a good start, people are enthusiastic and ready to put on their running shoes and get out there beating the streets, get voters signed up, volunteers have been sending in emails and calling all day.

Hang on folks - this is gonna be one grand fight to the last vote is counted.

My, it is amazing how both political parties keep shooting themselves in the foot. It is really starting to be funny.

As I listen to the various speeches during the convention with my roommate I find myself energized and excited about our government for the first time in a long while. Hearing each member as they speak mention the LGBT community and hearing the applause following finally gives me hope. As a person who has spent my life being treated as a second class citizen and paying the same as everyone else, I finally feel like there is hope that I might experience the equality I have always been told existed in the U.S.A

I would credit Obama more if he had a time table, or even a congressional committee formed to draft legislation for gay marriage. This has not happened.
He made this announcement months ago, and has has plenty of time to do so. Another instance where he has spoken, but not yet acted. He IS still president.

You know what I think? I think that the LGBT Movement, the Marriage Equality Movement, has incredibly ENERGIZED the Democratic Party -- and I think the Occupy Movement has contributed to that. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OWES THE GAY MOVEMENT AND THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT A LOT!!!
[Also, I think the Evangelical Fake "Xian" Hate Movement has ENERGIZED the Democratic Base -- by SCARING THE BEEJEESUS {literally!} OUT OF US!]

That's what we NEED -- for the Democratic Base to be ENERGIZED AGAIN as it was in 2008 to elect our President.
The Repukelicans -- BELIEVE IT! -- are going to be using -- not "trying", but USING -- EVERY DIRTY TRICK THAT EXISTS to win. They, and the Koch brothers, are DESPERATE to win!
Michael Moore says the Repukes COULD win, IF WE DON'T ALL TURN OUT!
Clinton, Castro, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, Sandra Fluke, the other great speakers I have heard so far, have created A GREAT POPULAR NARRATIVE. {The Dem foreign policy? not so great. But, that will have to WAIT.} We MUST DEFEAT THE REPUKES IN NOVEMBER -- AND WITH A *LANDSLIDE*.
Anything LESS than a Landslide, the Repukes will take as THEIR MANDATE to STEAL THE ELECTION as before.
Remember, we still have that UNFAIR Electoral College system -- so that the President is NOT elected by Popular Vote, even if he GETS the Popular Vote!
It is THRILLING to be a part of a GREAT POPULAR MOVEMENT. The Dems have "co-opted" both the Gay Movement, and the Occupy Movement. And, the Women's Movement -- the Great Popular Movements of this 21st Century. LET THEM SHOW THEMSELVES WORTHY OF US.

By the way, after listening to the WONDERFUL speeches at the Convention, I NEVER listen to the "Pundits". THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THE PUNDITS -- and I don't even listen to the real Creeps, like Rush Limbaugh! -- THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THE PUNDITS, IS TO THROW COLD WATER ON THE ENTHUSIASM. With snarky little cynicisms. WE DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO THAT.
The Koch brothers are so PERVASIVE with their ENDLESS MONEY, that they even have papers like the New York Times, now, SHILLING FOR THEM. Just like they are paying the Trolls to come here, and "take down" our Enthusiasm a peg or two, if they can! And sponsoring those FAKED "polls", favoring Mitt.....

What I have a sense of, is, that the Democratic Convention being broadcast all over the INTERNET, with "high points" REPEATED AND REPEATED -- that this is the start of a VAST POPULAR WAVE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE -- and that this is ALARMING to the slavish press, and to their Masters! That "subtle" little bit in the above article, "into the treacherous cultural divide over gay rights". This is a subtle message designed to bring us down just a little bit.... and a little bit.... and a little bit...,

Yes it would be nice to see timelines, I yearn for the day that timelines are a thing of the past, but let's not put too much on his shoulders. President Obama took a very calculated risk doing what he has done so far. The Democratic Party took a huge risk in the manor that they are so openly embracing the LGBT community during the very televised convention. To say He is President, (in the tone I imagine you saying at least) is putting more on him than the title allows for. As President he only has limited power. The only way he can create timelines he can follow through on, is if we vote enough non republicans into office. We have to give the President the power he needs. We are the People!

Definitely past time, and I'm very glad they finally did this. Now it's looking even more like a party of inclusion--especially compared to the very divisive, wealthy, mean, "other guys,".....and I do mean "guys" since that party also hates women.

Is this why Obama made his politically expedient about-face on the subject of homosexual marriage? You'll remember he was just another "hater" until recently.

Yes, Timothy "We have to give the President the power he needs." That's spot on. With Repugs you don't get equality.
