Chinese chicken may not be here yet, but with bird flu, melamine in dog food here killing some dogs, and in infant formula in China killing some babies, not to mention antifreeze in imported toothpaste from China a few years ago, I can't comprehend our government allowing any food of any kind from China. Thank you for the news, Carrie.

Yet it's nearly impossible to get vegetarian (especially vegan) food in school lunches because the USDA mandates certain amounts of "protein" (all food has protein) and insists each child is served a minimum amount and must take a milk even if they are allergic.

So we make children sick instead (short or long-term). :(

I guess we are growing future pharma customers.

I expect none of their chickens are brought up humanely anyway

I always remember school lunches as being revolting enough but processed Chinese chicken in school lunches? Isn't Mickey Dees bad enough? BTW you can get protein from chick peas and beans. Avoid soy and soy products like tofu as the majority of soy is GMO.

Processed Chinese chicken in school lunches? Don't we have any rights at all anymore?

Schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program receive some of their foods through the USDA, and the rest is purchased on the commercial market,” wrote Janey Thornton, Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services. “USDA is only involved in the purchases that are made through our program, and all of the food provided through USDA is 100 percent domestically grown and produced.”

So why is food for school lunches not all coming from The USDA program??? some is purchased on the commercial market???
Noted. Thank You Carrie.

All Chinese food products for human or animal consumption should be banned from this country.

What's wrong with domestic chicken that's prompting us to allow imported poultry?? These free trade agreements are screwing American manufacturers and food producers. Of course, when Chinese chicken does hit our shores, there won't be labels to warn us...just another thing, in my growing list of things, will no longer eat. Won't need help going vegan - ourgovernment is forcing many of us to do that by their shady dealings, in and out of the US.

Glad to know this, but check anything you buy. My husband bought a bottle of apple juice at our local grocery a few weeks ago that was produced in China. Seriously? Don't we have plenty of apples in the US? We didn't drink it. The standards here are too low, they are even lower in China.r

As an adult, I'm now glad my mom always made my school lunch. The food in the schools doesn't sound very appetizing.
