"So what's the point of a peace movement if it refuses to condemn a war like this?" Some people have demonstrated, he assures me; 6,000 came out on the streets the Saturday before last (and were taunted as "dirty Israelis" by the rightwing counter...

you are slipping. not so much hate in this one. isn't it time to go to bed? or are you afraid to have bad dreams about israelis coming to get you. isn't your obsession making you tired. you should seek some help. the only hate i feel is for hamas not the palistiiniens and certently not the israelis for protecting their home land.

Daryl, please stop making personal attacks on people - it reflects badly on you and all you represent.

Carrie - sorry I didn't see that you had already seen this news item earlier - have just sent you an email with this article marked, and this paragraph emphasised - and it is all the more relevant given the fresh remarks of Daryl...
"But even here, the mood for social justice does not seem to connect poverty in Israel with the vast financial cost of occupation, let alone allowing empathy with the Palestinian predicament. If Iím not with them Iím against them. I am made to feel a little like an apologist for Hamas. A thought dawns in my head: perhaps I too ought to shut up and keep the evening sweet. Of all the things seen on my trip, this was the most depressing conversation of them all."

If any of us have a government that has some part or parts of it that commits injustice - in a democracy we are all morally obligated to stand up and tell people about it. That does not and never has meant that we are attacking any government but are highlighting the misdeeds of the wrongdoers in that government. If a whole government gets consumed by the wrongdoing, we are still morally obligated to speak even when people won't listen.

"My empathy for the suffering in Gaza does not make me anti-Semitic, nor does it make me pro-Hamas or anti-Israel, it makes me human". David Harris-Gershon.

Thanks Carrie. Good posting. You must be on the right track since you're ruffling the feathers of those that are obviously opposed to facing up to the cold hard truth and are so blind they can only see one side of story.

Thank you Pat, Robert, and Jess. Unfortunately, I fear those most in need of reading this article won't do so.

I wonder if Palestinian Jews dare speak their name in Gaza?

Carrie, we DO read your articles ~ how else are we responding to them? Do you read ours or just yell, *PROPAGANDA*?
How is it that you KNOW it's propaganda and also KNOW that what YOU read is factual? Easy answer!

Robert, you make some astounding assumptions! It rather sounds that your interpretation is that anyone who disagrees with the *popular crowd* is blind, heartless, or ignorant.

Are any of You and Yours getting any first-hand information from Israel or the Palestinian people...or just Hamas et al.?

Noted w/thanks for posting, Carrie. I believe it's important for people to read the views of someone writing from personal first-hand knowledge.

Barbara, this article is written by someone with first hand knowledge of the situation in Israel. None of the articles I post come from Hamas. That one actually made me laugh. I realize printing the truth about Israel is quite unpleasant for you, but that isn't going to stop the truth from coming out. Anger and denial won't change the truth nor will it change how the world feels about what has happened in Gaza.
