Israel does this because Israel can do this, because very sick people in the Israeli government believe that this use of power confirms their superiority. Is there any other reason to do something so petty and vexing for so long? These fiends (yes, this is the right word) know the amount of discomfort and even ill health this causes because they live in the same hot desert.

I have read that slum lords in the tenements do the same over hot water. Why is there a need for some people to continue to wound their victims? Why?

All I know is that such things can be expressed very simply and understood through a quotation from Jimi Hendrix: "Not until the Power of Love overcomes the Love of Power, will the world know peace."

> Israel does this because Israel can do this,
and israel could NOT do this without aid & backing by the USA

> "Not until the Power of Love overcomes the Love of Power, will the world know peace."
d'accord! -- But i'm getting more and more afraid that there won't be (m)any humans to witness the world come to peace.

Very good question. I wish whole-heartedly that all buildings rebuilt & rehabilitated in Gaza be equipped with solar panels, &/or æolians that can function without being continuously vulnerable to supply cut-offs. BUT - even for that, Israel will control imports (& will doubtless find some reason to state that they are dangerous to Israel ...)

Thanks, Carrie

Noted. I like Evelyn's comment. Solar panels, but without control by Israel. And, Israel must stop building those "settlements."

Israel would probably start precision bombing to destroy the solar panels. The 'settlements' will eventually be all of Palestine.

These people are in what one would call between a rock and hard place. Yes, the USA backs this, wrong for the USA, but it's still ultimately the people of Israel to condone or stand up to it.

So true, Lorna
And especially safe water.

I wish that were recognised and respected ... both for Gaza and for Palestinian communities in the West Bank - where the Israeli-controlled water distribution system limits quantity, and carelessness with effluent & solid waste pollutes streams & springs. (Israeli control dates back to dispute between Israel & Jordan over control of the Jordan River in the '60s, responsibility given to the IDF/ occupying forces for all water in the WB after the '67 war, then transferred to Mekorot in '82. Many don't realise this, & try to suggest that the water shortages are due to misuse of funds & resources by the Palestinian Authority & by Hamas )

FROM THE ARTICLE:

"Contrary to common belief, the severe undersupply of electricity in Gaza is not new, and not a result of the latest military aggression. Gaza has not had uninterrupted electricity since the establishment of the Palestinian Authority in 1994. In an attempt to compensate for the Israeli disruption of Gaza’s power supply, the Palestinians established their first power generation plant in 2004. Ever since, Israel has regularly limited the supply of electricity and industrial fuel needed to operate this only power plant in Gaza. Israel’s ability to deny families in Gaza the energy they need is nothing less than collective punishment of Palestinians—punishment whereby an entire community is made to pay for the acts of a few.

During Israel’s military aggression on Gaza this past summer, Israel again bombed the sole power plant in Gaza. (Israel bombed the same plant on June 28, 2006.) In a July 29, 2014 article about the latest destruction, the Guardian quoted Amnesty International which stated, “the crippling of the power station amounted to collective punishment of Palestinians.” Amnesty went on to note that, “the strike on the plant will worsen already severe problems with Gaza’s water supply, sewage treatment and power supplies to medical facilities.”

I don't think this happens here ~ summer or not! Good heavens people ~ read the articles before commenting.
