"Israel First'~ for Gay Couple Who Hosted Ted Cruz

Yesterday the NYT published an account of a gathering for Ted Cruz in NY held by two wealthy gay men. Cruz is opposed to same-sex marriage, so what was he doing there? The TimesâEUR(TM) Maggie Haberman buried the Israel angle in the sixth paragraph.

*But it would be nice too if people discussed Israel’s use of sexual freedom there to “pinkwash” human rights violations against Palestinians, an issue pioneered by Sarah Schulman. And if the boycotting of Reisner and Weiderpass’s businesses allowed people to talk about the effectiveness of boycott as a tool to fight for human and civil rights.*

Typical BS! Just another platform for anti-Semitic opinion. Some people must be obsessed.

I personally never understood the GOP Log Cabin bunch to begin with...knowing how anti gay the GOP extremist are on the topic. I've read where some say...'we are Republicans because we want to change the anti gay from within the party. I read that just prior to the 2000 election. Seems their reason was B.S. as well as nothing has changed within their party ..GOP. Business might have been their better answer even back then....sigh. I hem about the same as I do 'minority ' race person who are Republicans....old term [s]...Turn Coats.......uncle Toms etc. but for today I just think of them as being really stupid people in general... reason that to me.. that anyone who votes against their own good must be stupid...i.m.o. That also covers the majority of 'white' middle class or below ,GOP voters..........

Yep few errors above in my comment but the many 'suspicious' items that appear on nearly all of the care2 pages via my anti-virus/malware/spam program says are present really gives my puter problems when typing. I forget to type them [my comments] out on a note pad first which everything flows nicely then copy and pasting them onto the comment space on topic threads. Anyway...all in my above comment is ...just 'in my opinion'.

Quite an apology from Reisner, too. Don't know how much the threatened boycott had to do with it, but the remorse seems genuine:

Who says boycots dont work—WASHINGTON — Ian Reisner, a gay businessman who hosted an event for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in New York this week, apologized on Sunday after furious backlash from the gay community. “I am shaken to my bones by the e-mails, texts, postings and phone calls of the past few days. I made a terrible mistake. I was ignorant, naive and much too quick in accepting a request to co-host a dinner with Cruz at my home without taking the time to completely understand all of his positions on gay rights,” he said.

“I’ve spent the past 24 hours reviewing videos of Cruz’ statements on gay marriage and I am shocked and angry. I sincerely apologize for hurting the gay community and so many of our friends, family, allies, customers and employees. I will try my best to make up for my poor judgement. Again, I am deeply sorry,” he added.

I'm obsessed with opposing injustice. Those obsessed with Israeli PR -- Uranus is showing.

Seems like Ian Reisner wanted to have his cake and eat it too, just as Ted Cruz did. Both thought the restless natives in their base would be subdued by Cruz"s spur of the moment statement "marriage should be left up to the states", which could mean anything and is something Cruz is probably denying to have said at some other political gathering right now.

We know that Cruz's priorities change with the direction of the wind or the amount a donor is willing to invest, so it's no big surprise he was happy to turn up at this gathering to talk about foreign (i.e. Israel) policy and opposition to Obama, even though he probably knew that two of his hosts were a gay couple. Reisner and his partner Weiderpass may have done some soul searching but chose Israel above the LGBT community. Until a boycott was mentioned and Reisner chose to apologize. Then it turned out to be all about Reisner's and Cruz's top priority after all: money.

Nothing ambiguous about "Leaving it up to the states" -- it's just a ploy to avoid federal courts deeming the ban on LBGTIQ marriages unconstitutional, effectively allowing the discrimination to continue in the many states headed by Republican governors and majority Republican legislatures. It's also a popular refrain that appeals to their base, who typically support stronger state's rights and a weaker federal government -- precisely for reasons like this. As usual, regressive Republicans are fighting against social progress tooth and nail.

Isn't it strange how those who twist titles and presentation of content to endorse their unconditional uncritical support for Zionist politics (and have to twist info because it often isn't in the original source) keep throwing out the same attacks, insults & adjectives .... obsession is a pretty accurate self description for some people!

Thanks for posting, Carrie - and for good comments, most of those who've contributed to the thread ...
