We remember proudly today the service of our veterans, but we must also reflect solemnly on why Veterans' Day was established at all.

As long as our economy surrounds itself within the Military Industrial Complex there will continue to be wars that the USA will go into. Perpetual war represents perpetual profits for the ever expanding business and government interests.

The military-industrial complex is fuelled by a conveniently ambiguous and unseen enemy: the terrorist. Military and homeland budgets now support millions of people in an otherwise declining economy.

The core of this expanding complex is an axis of influence of corporations, lobbyists, and agencies that have created a massive, self-sustaining terror-based industry.

Corporatists like Trump is already saying he will build our military into the largest and most feared in the world, forgetting we already have the largest military budget in the world, that we have nuclear weapons, that is pretty fearful, what else do we need? Will make him and his buddies lots of money though, and people living in "fear" all the time, which they are on the Right, jump onto that bandwagon.

There are thousands of lobbyists in Washington to guarantee the ever-expanding budgets for war and homeland security. So if we don't have the leadership pushing this we have the lobbyists making sure that any holdouts will make sure they are reminded over and over again.

The war-based economy allows for military and homeland departments to be virtually untouchable. Environmental and social programmes are eliminated or curtailed by billions as war-related budgets continue to expand to meet "new threats".

Our economic war-dependence is matched by political war-dependence. Many members represent districts with contractors that supply homeland security needs and our on-going wars.

So until the American people in large numbers begin to push back and demand a different Country and ways of living and doing things, this will continue on and on and on as it matters not which Administration is in, the economic system is set to roll this way.

It is a small effort but every effort to reject the Military War Machine is worth it. Please consider signing petition if you have not done so already.

Noted. Thanks, Carrie.
Gladly signed petition Dandelion posted link to; and agree 100% with her comment----very well stated. For too many Americans, Veterans Day is a day to fly flags, drink beer, and eat lots of food. If they really want to honor Veterans, they should all let their members of Congress & Pres. Obama know that we no longer support sending any troops to these battles that should be fought by 1%-ers and CEO's, since they're the ones profiting from them. We need Congress to vote on repealing the AUMF put into place during last Bush admin.

While we can never truly repay the debt we owe our heroes, the least we should do for our brave veterans is to ensure that the government takes a proactive approach to delivering the services and benefits they have earned, so they can access the care they need and so richly deserve.
