Shared news article over social media to spread awareness.

Not what religion was ever about, but religion has been used as a hook to exploit and endanger millions or innocent lives.

l am very sad that those responsible all around the world mostly just get away with harming severly innocent children, ruining lives of whole societies. Many discusting priests.

Something has started, the herd is waking up thanksfully.

All religitard predators must be identified, caught and brought under the sun, taken out so kids and their parents could go out without fear.

Thank you dear Animae for posting on this crucially important issue.

Thank you dear Animae, sadly not surprised at this, they have been not only hiding it, but protecting these lowlifes.

We have this problem also in Germany - to me this form of bigottery is the most disgusting - and it is a big shame how the catholic church handles this problem; they leave the Offenders unpunished and harm the victims again instead to consider that this misdeeds leaving lifelong damages and also can cause suicide...

Was a major issue in the USA for all children but the Native American children were abused terrible this way. A child is certainly afraid and not sure who to turn to, but when the children within the indigenous are removed and sent miles away, many times never seeing their parents for 10 years, they truly have no one to turn to and the scum bags knew it.

Is such a large number and many of them, if not most of them, were known and nothing was ever done. I know in the USA, if it got to well known the person was sent to another parish, leaving them with a pretty much clean slate to start all over again.

Is bad enough any adult would do this to a child, but when you are in a position of authority and claim to be representative of god that is about as low as one can go, that is a destroyer of that child. Imagine the confusion and pain they must go through trying to sort all that out in their minds. I suppose many did not sort it out......leading to alcoholism, inability to form healthy relationships, or driven even to suicide.

Alas, the death of Jimmy Savile in Britain, uncovered an absolute mass of sexual abuse going back decades, and this has just uncovered centuries of sexual exploitation, the majority of which has been perpetuated by people in supposed positions of authority.

All the church does is pay off the victim if they are suing and move the offender to a new parish.

Not to defend the church here, far from it, but can someone explain to me how paying off an occasional victim and moving the offender to a new parish differs in principle from firing an abusive law enforcement officer without pressing any charges, which leaves the officer free to get rehired pretty much anywhere, any time.

I'm glad Australia is opening up and doing something about its terrible record. I hope 9and have some confidence) that it will not be the last country to do this.

Humans are sexual beings. To segregate the sexes and impose celibacy on them is wrong. Christ had 13 disciples. His favorite was Mary.

My guess is this figure is very conservative. Abuse of young children in Australia has been endemic for many years and goes all the way to the top of the religious hierarchy.
Not something we Australians can now brush under the carpet as has happened in the past.
Thanks for the story.

I believe it's only the Catholic religion that prohibits their clergymen to marry.
Which is just dumb. As Hartson has said, human's are sexual beings. As such
beings, Catholic priests should be allow to marry. The pedophile occurrences
would be reduced drastically. Unless the pedophile was just a pervert.
Thank you Animae.

All these Christian churches catholic or otherwise. Strongly believe in the devil. I'd say it takes one to know one. Maybe that's why they all support the NRA. Gonna shoot that devil.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. I'd be surprised if this church exposed these people, they had a trial and if found guilty they would go to jail. That would be a surprise . . . . . . .

i think some of you are confusing pedophelia with a normal sex drive, IT IS NOT!
Most pedophiles are married men, (e.g. my biological father), it is a disease of the mind not the body!
Allowing the catholic clergy to marry will change nothing!!

EXPOSURE & handing the culprits over to the law would be the only way to make real change!

The pope has known for a long time, he said the right things & did absolutely nothing.

The problem with lumping in sexual abuse with religious practice, just shows the tip of the iceberg in terms of how religion and religious practice is conducted by the masses, in terms of understanding the actual texts for one.

ALL human being have a sexuality. . . some require their sexual drive to be "managed" more regularly than others, in terms of a basic biological necessity. . . rather like going to the bathroom, some people have a strong control of their bladder and don't need to visit that bathroom as often as others, and some do.

Back to sexuality. . . . as soon as one starts to "suppress", there starts a problem. . . the basic bodily urge to excrete waste matter, be it urine, excrement or sexual fluids has to be conducted as often as the body requires it. Being told, educated or conditioned via religion to suppress IS dangerous.

The next major problem or issue, is how to "manage" the energies that are present and flow throughout the body, including sexual energy, which is very very potent, powerful stuff. . . when one has enjoyed sex or masturbates, one orgasms. The force of emotion that is release demonstrates how incredibly potent the sexual energy can be as a result of this.

Most people CAN control their urges, otherwise you would have mass emoting done on a scale that would be unmanageable, such as control of hate, frustration, irritation, the sexual urge, etc. Proper management of one's body can make use of the energies within, and diffuse potential problems.

The ones who cannot control their urges, are the ones for whom their is a problem, which manifests as abuse, violence, etc.

Here's where the Churches of ALL religions need to accept responsibility for their own in terms of ANY form of abuse. The most vulnerable have often suffered and often over a prolonged period of time. This is obviously completely unacceptable, but part of the issue, revolves around the understanding of the energies present in and around us, and how we deal with these energies, and cultivate them within, rather than having them manifest in behavior which is very dangerous and unhealthy for all concerned.

Until people who ARE dangerous to themselves due to lack of being able to manage their own energetic levels (sexuality, emotions, etc.), CAN manage, one needs gymnasiums and brothels in the case of sex, to exercise the sexual and physical drives of energy.

As AniMae correctly observes, most Pedophiles are male, although women have been known to prey upon the vulnerable.

I think this is one huge area where "austerity measures" due to completely irresponsible bankers screwing up the financial systems of the world, almost bringing the entire global financial structures to their knees, are a VERY BAD IDEA. "Austerity measures" should ONLY EVER be put in place, where the wealthiest ARE ABLE AND HAVE TO play their part in helping to resolve the financial instabilities of societies and cultures. To abrogate one's responsibilities is symptomatic of a disease of attitude of couldn't care less, and "it's not my problem" which demonstrated lack of empathy, sympathy, ethics and morals.

EXPOSURE and handling the culprits over to the law, only works, when it is consistently applied throughout the world, AND there are sufficient Care & Social Services in place to deal with the issues. Back to those "austerity measures."

When people are suffering and struggling, you don't take away the safety nets. You only remove a safety net, WHEN IT IS NO LONGER REQUIRED.

Maybe so...but, here's the COOL thing! All you need to do is CONFESS and do your penance and it's all FORGIVEN! See how that works? A religion of convenience, to say the least.

Darren, having read your comment, although it jumps from one point to another between going to the bathroom and holding your bladder and Bankers screwing up financially, has no bearing on the subject of
Pedophile priest molesting innocent children. And yes it's true, that those who can not managed their sexual energies are given a year to contemplate whether they should take their priestly vows. Many who are faithful can not live a life of celibacy, so they decline. But others who take the vow to serve the Lord do so with the belief that God will lead them to righteousness. Amen.

well why am i not surpeised . and putting all of them in jail is not the answer , because all your doing is giving them free room and board , in other words rewarding them for their horrendeous crime . and also how could you run a cult like that if 60 or 70 % of your people were in jail ??and lets be honest it has been proven that treatment for creatures like that doesn't work . it may cover it and subdue it for awhile but it will always return to the individual. sorry but the only real treatment is termination . and we all know that wont happen so it will just continue , unfortunately . i know what i've said may sound harsh but we have an epidemic of child abuse and saddly all the treatment attempts in the world haven't changede a thing . maybe if we ban religion it would help ? lol ya like that's ever gonna happen . be well people oh and Happy Valentines Day . and Thank You Animae for bring up this article on a very important but seldom discussed suject .

Thank you Animae for making the distinction between pedophilia and a sex drive. You are 100% correct that most pedophiles are heterosexual and often married. There is something else that I feel should be added. Having counselled many adults who were abused as children, it was not solely the domain of Catholic priests, but also Anglican and Baptist ministers and likely many more 'men of the cloth' from various other religions. It also was perpetrated by choir directors and others connected with churches.

Patricia. . . bankers screwing up the world economies, resulting in the Public Purse being used to shore up the banks, which resulted in Public Debt, which resulted in the consequential "Austerity" measures, which has in turn resulted in the Public, Social and Health Services, support networks, etc. being cut. . .

Where the services and support networks are cut, the people who have the issues who COULD be helped, are neglected, and thus sexual problems persist, and behaviors continue. . .
