Thank you so much Animae for your kindness in posting this information. For anyone concerned about the decline in swifts worldwide please see swiftconservation.org for more information. I have 7 houses on our home and one was used last year. Sadly only one swift of the pair made it back this year so no occupants breeding. These 'devil' birds who live their lives on the wing, only coming to rest when breeding, need all the help they can get. Climate change, loss of habitat and the continual spraying of chemicals the the major factors in their struggle to survive. Please do consider helping them, the delight they bring as they swoop and whizz through the air will thank us.

Thanks Animae , and Joan i sent you a message , the loss of habitat is ruining British wild life, and this needs more support for sure, I have noted, tweeted, and will install a high nesting box for next summer, as i saw birds visiting a small hole in our wall , high up, almost under the eav , not sure if it was a swift, but a nesting box will be safer for their eggs, will watch Spring watch too, thanks for the great info Joan & Animae xxxxxxx

Swifts are fantastic birds & summer in the UK would not be the same without them.

Swifts are precious birds of the air. Their habitats must be protected at all costs. I am lucky to have about six house martins who come every year to our house and nest in exactly the same spot year after year. Swifts, however, spend most of their lives in the air catching insects on the go. They only briefly settle down to hatch a new brood. They are one of the most beautiful birds that I have seen. Thank you my dear friend Joan for kindly raising the issue of Swift Awareness Week in the United Kingdom. Every little bit helps to protect these fabled these little birds.

Thank you all for noting. There has been a lot of activity by swift supporters here in the UK and many villages and other areas are getting involved a lot more with providing the boxes/houses for them.
As we all know chemical spraying is one of the major factors in their worldwide decline, PLEASE sign as many petitions that come your way regarding chemicals/spraying and those corporations who are hellbent in producing them.
Sincere thanks, Joan

Even when the week has been yet, this may have been blessing to them, as in the future as well, I think :)
