Noted... where's the petieion on this? This part of the USA is one of the oldest and the most beautiful and should be destroyed by haze pollution.

Nancy...Powerful video at site, sadly, I can't find the petition even with your instructions...This area SOOO needs to be protected - To have a HAZE over this area would make the "Founding Fathers of the United States RISE up out of their graves"! Though I have not been to some of these SPECIAL Parks since 1986, personally, I am kinda glad -- so I still have the Magical Awesome power they held for me, both Winter and Summer...If someone can get me the petition even though I am not her much, FOR SURE I will sign and forward with hope that MANKIND gets their act together before all is ROTTEN and Baren Land!

I see the haze whenever I go home to visit; it is obnoxious, as bad as any coal fired plant in the Midwest. The technology was obsolete when it was built, soe typical Arisona politics in that, and the plant should be closed, the site cleaned.

We all have to be more conscious of the energy we consumer (and waste!) so fewer power plants are needed.

Gladly signed. What a shame to see (or not see I should say)the haze in the air. One of the natural wonders of the world being subjected to such atrocities.

I've been talking and blogging about this issue for 3+ years and aside from some very nice reply letters for the goveners ans senators it goes on because no one is paying attention to the long term effects. Wake the F up American, our pets won't get feed if we're all dead. get it?

By ignoring or tolerating this haze it appears there is no clear plan to deal with this anywhere this may occur. Eventually we will not be able to see anything clearly anywhere.

I had the best time in that region some years ago, Grand Canyon the king of canyons, Bryce Canyon the beautiful lady in red, just to mention a couple. I cannot understand that a country with such a variety of natures gems does not want to protect these treasures. Sure you need energy, but there are ways with modern technology to minimise pollution. I have seen power plants in Germany burning brown coal to generate power, but they have scrubber plants next to it to minimise the impact on nature and humans. Of course it doubles the cost of the plant, but you have relatively clean air. The USA have this technology but rather produce power cheap and nasty, just like the country I live in, Australia. East of Melbourne we have brown coal fired power stations, one can smell them miles away, cheap and nasty, no scrubbers. But luckily we have no nuclear power reactors (apart from one little research reactor near Canberra), and that is a comfort. But we also mine a lot of yellow cake to supply the worlds reactors, in the end it is going to bite us all in the bumm. I am really happy Germany has closed down 7 aging reactors in the wake of Fukushima, however, France with the highest number of reactors in Europe is still running all of theirs. To make it worse, all French nuclear waste goes to Lüneburg in Germany.

Noted. There is little enough pure, pristine land left, we need to preserve what we have. And if we don`t do something soon, it will be gone. What will be left for future generations?

With 300+ days of sunshine per year and plenty of open space, there is no need for anything but solar in the Southwest. The coal extraction is wreaking havoc on the Rez, the plant pollutes - all for profits....

Thank you finally found and signed the petition. Added comment suggesting excise taxes designed to capture external costs--such taxes can do just as well as non-tariff regulatory burden for minimizing undesirables.
