When foreign-owned horse slaughter plants operated in this country, American taxpayers had to foot the bill for U.S. Department of Agriculture inspections--at a cost of about $5 million a year. These funds have been cut off since 2005, but now certain fed

Signed, Bucephala, or Alexandria Bucephalus, was a city founded by Alexander the Great and named in honor of his horse, Bucephalus.

So much he cared (Alexander the Great) for his friend that he gave him that Honor, I have never seen or heard of someone giving that kind of Honor to a Horse, I see the Cruelty in which they are being treated and it just breaks my heart, if it was not for the Horse there would be no world, it was with the Horse that people were able to conquered the world, and this is how they pay them back by mistreating, abusing and killing their sons and daughters with no remorse, how SHAMEFUL!!!

We owe civilization to the Horse because it was the Horse that conquered the world!!

What is man without the beast?
If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.

Wasting any money on the USDA is unaffordable; wasting it on horse slaughter is unconscionable. We should scrap all excess in government; eliminating the BATFE, DHS/TSA, DEA, NEA, Dept of Energy, Dept of State, NAFTA&GATT, PPACA, and DOMA should take precedence over trimming the fat from the USDA and FDA, but putting our government on a diet is mandatory.

So they will take their atrocious activities off shore and then can be as cruel as they want. Unless this is done world wide then at least some inspections should be carried out. No we don't support the slaughter of horses or the inhumane slaughter of anything. But this ban is a bit off the mark surely.

I already know that many wlll jump all over me for being the lone "dissenter" here, but while the idea of horses being slaughtered is disgusting to me in many ways, the alternatives to it are even worse. I'd rather see unwanted horses die a quick death in a slaughterhouse than die a long and slow, painful, agnonizing one from starvation, or now, being trucked thousands of miles to either Canada or Mexico, where we have absolutely NO say so as to conditions.

The two last slaughterhouses in the U.S. were not foreign owned. I don't understand how anyone can claim they love horses, yet condone the brutal deaths that thousands go thru by being starved or stuffed into double decker trucks and transported to another country to die. Why would it not be better to have the plants reopened here, where we can control the conditions and make sure the process is done the best way possible? The laws on the books needed to be enforced better, and what's happened now is like saying, "okay, someone in a prison got assaulted and that was cruel, so let's just let all the prisoners out again". That's not the answer. The answer is better controls on the "inside".
