Calling their votes for the right-wing and pro-gun Grassley-Cruz amendment a vote in support of background checks is an outrageous attempt to rewrite history. We can't let them get away with this.

Bad people won't put themselves in a position of having a background check. Only good people will want to own a gun will do the right thing.

When will the liberals learn?

What a cop out, Diane. Every move is a move closer to what is needed. Just like the AHCA is closer to medicare for all. We have to start somewhere with all of the Ayne Rand followers in our backwards government. You just help them succeed in taking us nowhere while they enjoy their families millions.

You BET I signed!

Guns should be like cars. Title, license, registration, liability insurance. Sale with the title and all. Lose your gun? You're an accomplice.

Think things out, Diane. Be positive for a change. We can make good change if the opposition would join us.

Diane is right in the respect that criminals wont apply for a gun if a back ground check is needed. BUT many sales, too many sales, are at gun shows where there is no checking and thats what this is supposed to cover: gun shows..but then again the way they keep throwing in little amendments and the like, the original intent is always thrown on the backburner.

any other restrictions i am against, because the criminals will ALWAYS HAVE THEM..

Jason, the reason so many are fighting this is because of what your sayng..having it written in many different places that you own one and having to pay pay pay to protect yourself is ridiculous and when the govt decides they want us disarmed and they WILL, they know who to go too. UNACCEPTABLE..and if your gun is stolen YOUR an accomplice? are you serious? so someone steals your car and kills someone and so its your fault as well?? (perhaps you met literally LOSING it, like misplaced it?)

I signed because if you are a representative, and vote a certain way, no matter how assanine, OWN IT.

Well, Jason, don't get your knickers in a knot. I'm just using common sense. I'd sign this petition if I thought it would do any good but the truth is, pal, we've got lethal weapons in our kitchens and baseball bats out in our garages. When a mentally deranged individual wants to kill, mutilate, dismember, etc. someone they won't be filling out the paperwork to get approval to buy a gun. They'll steal one. They'll buy one on a back street. They'll get a friend of theirs to go to the gun show and buy them a few guns. OR, they'll buy butcher knives, take one out of their own kitchen drawer or walk into the garage or basement and pick up a baseball bat or a steel pipe. They might own a car. They can drive that car directly into the path of someone walking on the side of the road and take them down.

Gina, if someone breaks into my home and steals my gun, and I do have a nice one, I am in no way liable for what he or she does with that gun no more than if that person stole my car and used it to rob a bank.

The issue here is more government control and Obama is all over that like flies on a watermelon. Know this....no matter how much paperwork the "good guys" fill out it will not DETER one criminal from murdering someone. Do you people understand that? Do you honestly believe that the crime rate will go down? LOL. Look at Chicago with very strict gun laws and crime continues to go up. I live near Washington DC and the gun laws are very strict there. I wouldn't go into Washington DC during the day much less at night because of the shootings and, yes, the crime rate is escalating there as well.

So, please, don't tell me that people registering to own a gun and receive a background check will make the crime rate go down. Our government is corrupt....Obama is faced with one scandal after another and innocent people were killed in Benghazi because he sat on his butt along with Hillary and did nothing. Now the IRS is targeting innocent people because of their political affiliation and will soon run the healthcare. Why don't you LIBERAL FOLKS clean up the crap Obama has spread into every corner of our government and then if you have time you can continue to put up worthless petitions like this one thinking that government background checks is going to lower the crime rate. Do your due diligence and research the cities with the strictest gun laws an then look at their crime rate. Then come back and tell us background checks will work. They won't work and all of you know it. Perhaps this is just a liberal's way of creating a diversion so you don't have to pay attention to Obamagate and all of his handpicked crooked appointees who were confirmed by the liberal senate.

You have more important issues at hand with your man Obama destroying our country.

Robert K said "You aren't allowed to tell the truth and be a Republican, why is anyone surprised by this?"

Uh, Robert, have an opinion with Hillary Clinton lied about Benhazi? Do you have an opinion why Eric Holder has been caught in many lies on the IRS scandal? What Obama having the audacity to stand before the American people and stating the first HE HEARD about the IRS investigating The Tea Party and other republican organizations was when HE READ IT IN THE NEWSPAPER?

Your comment about the republicans lying takes a back seat to the outrageous lies and scandal coming from Obama and his hand picked appointees.

Care to comment?

Why lie? We SHOULD be voting against unconstitutional background checks. In fact, we should ban all gun control in the USA. Gun control doesn't work (crooks get guns regardless. Arm the victims!) and should be retroactively repealed to the ratification of the Constitution; the UN should be kicked out of the USA and their stupid Small Arms Treaty thrown in the garbage along with its proponents!

Thanks, Nancy. Noted, signed, and shared on Facebook. Since we all pretty much know that this is a "Liberal" site, why do these anti-liberals bother to read it? It obviously just aggravates them.

It's becoming so apparent, that the better liar you are, the more support the Republicans will give you. Surely, everyone lies on occasion, but the GOP has perfected it
It gives me no pleasure saying this, but, this is an area, where females are equal to males, especially with the so-called religious right ~ the ones who profess to call themselves Christians, yet have no idea how to follow in the footsteps of Christ.

To Edith B.: The anti-liberals are naturally antagonistic; they love to create havoc. I have stopped responding to them, as it makes no sense and gives them the attention they are seeking.
Most of them need someone or something to do..

Yes, it is a first step alright.....for massive government control of the people. And one day when the government wants to confiscate all of our guns they will have all of the paperwork in place to do so. It is our constitutional right to own a gun which makes our country fairly unique in the world.

Edith and Charlene, your responses are grossly immature. I have my freedom of speech the same as you. For you to make those comments shows a high level of immaturity in my opinion. As a republican, I'm out here to give the other side of the argument and I will continue to do so.

They already have background checks for gun purchases even at gun shows. No criminal ever said lets go get a background check before we steal these guns. The fact is gun control does not work. Look at the violence in Chicago where they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Yet all the places around Chicago that guns are easier to get there is less crime. If the founding fathers had gun control then we would still be under British rule. I am a progressive. I believe in environmental protections and civil rights and rights of the poor not to be taken advantage of by the rich and corporations, but I also believe in gun rights.

Diane, my comment was to Jason regarding the gun theft, so not sure why you mentioned me in your post..

Background checks will be a deterrent BUT criminals will still go else where..I dont mind them checking me out but dont tell me how many and what kind I can own..THEY KNOW ANYHOW. CATCH 22

and Paul is spot on..They are watching you in your car & phone with trackers, your computers and webcams, etc ...big brother is HERE

And Jamies words:
I believe in environmental protections and civil rights and rights of the poor not to be taken advantage of by the rich and corporations, but I also believe in gun rights.
is ME all the way..

If you vote a certain way OWN IT

Jason R. Guns are a protected right... cars are not....

Both parties are the party of liars. When will people stop leaning in either direction and learn to walk up right. Come on some common sense would be good here.

I am a libertarian, forget all the lies. However I will say this the current administration has been in more lies or shown more incompetence in I had no idea spin that even your precious Hilary has been proven to be a complete liar and in doing so helped to cover the horrible deaths of 4 American citizens. Between this and the IRS I am appalled that every American Citizen is not so out raged that they should want to imprison these people. What can i say, you will always walk through life with your blinders on. Divided a country can not survive. You are allowing the government to divide the people.
