What the Verdict in Bradley Manning's Trial Means for Whistleblowers

Bradley Manning was not and is not a spy yet he, like seven other people, were charged with violating the Espionage Act by the Justice Department under Obama. They had a law never intended to be used against leaks brought down upon them like a sledgehamme

Although I take pride in my membership in the ACLU---my feelings about this are mixed.

This pretty much guarantees there will be no more Whistleblowers. Obama is looking more and more like a Republican in some of his views. When will this stop?? Noted and thank you.

I still stand with send this kid home.
You put young kids with consciences in these positions. WTH did they think would happen?

Thanks Nancy.. Noted. I couldn't get into this article, but it certainly is a worrying subject as naturally we have to expect the government to be horrified at whistle blowers as they COULD potentially be very dangerous for the country if the whistleblowers were not aware totally of the risk of the information that they are leaking... However, when it is just to show us the underhand things that governments are doing, then that is information that we really need to know It is quite frightening to see the power that governments already have over us and so the whilstelblowers are so necessry for us to know what is really going on. I too, am afraid that this incident is going to make life for whistlebowers even more dangerous. I am afraid that like it or not governments are usually full of control freaks that are very powerful and devious and are not going to treat whistleblowers with any respect or mercy! They will most likely be even more ruthless in making sure that no-one dares to investigate their little world behind locked doors!

I continue my support of Manning, as well as Snowden & Assange. I believe it's quite possible that we may see many more whistleblowers. Ed Snowden knew what he was facing, and released the documents knowing that. Even Manning, in his online chats withs Adrian Lamo knew that he could be facing time in jail, but released them anyway. My dream would be for a massive amount of whistleblowers to come forward all at once.

Manning got less than he deserved. He leaked the names of our spies. Now those people have been put in jeopardy by his illegal and unethical act. "Leaks" can have severe consequences for Americans traveling who are not part of the military.

Bradley Manning is neither a traitor nor spy. He simply made public what government is doing without a mandate or knowledge of those who elected it and whom it supposedly serves.

Bradley Manning, Edward Snowden and Julian Assange - and those that support or work with them stand for a fairer, more open, honest and ethical society.

There is no justice in penalising them for exposting injustice.

when will the govt stop being so greedy and selfish? the world is just a playground for the rich and powerful and they have no regard for ANYONE OR ANYTHING but themselves. They arent rich enough, powerful enough, no they have to have it ALL. we are all just collateral damage..just like 9/11 and the war on terror.. a SCAM,, the only decent presidents KILLED or bought out of office..kennedy, clinton and even carter..why is that? because they knew and cared about the little people...
when it will stop? it wont until more people come forward and demand it
manning just told the truth..something the govt is notorious for NOT DOING EVER. EVERYTHING they do is for THEIR AGENDA..if you believe otherwise your a fool

This just proves what we've known for a long time--our "government" is peopled with excrement, those with no shame, morals, ethics or integrity. Once in a while an honorable person will win through, but that is seldom the case (IMO only).
I admire these men who have all put their lives, and their hope of a viable future, on the line. They have won nothing (of a personal nature) and have lost everything most people value.
Big Brother is, indeed, watching, listening and reading--we've gone way beyond "1984"!
Thanks Nancy.

Roger Hawcroft said it all for me: "There is no justice in penalising them for exposing injustice"
