According to the analysis performed by the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, growers with sales up to $500,000 would likely spend 4% to 6% of their gross revenue to comply with the new food safety rules. For small farms, FSMA could consume...

Please send your comments. I believe mine was the 13th : ( There are many great talking points on the link. I said:
In regards to 79 FR 75006, contrary to some assertions, the Proposed Rule (organic assessment exemption regulations under 23 Federal marketing orders and 22 research and promotion programs) will not undermine the non-organic commodities, but will enhance the ability of farmers and handlers to ensure the long-term
sustainability of organic production in the United States, as well as the success of all farm
operations. We thank USDA for the speed in developing the Proposed Rule and urge the
Department to proceed to a final rule as quickly as possible, with immediate
implementation.

"The FDA admits that the cost of compliance with their proposed rules will be high for farmers, as much as $12,384 for farms with sales of $500,000 or less. This regulatory burden, particularly given some of the questionable testing protocols, is an unacceptable imposition of financial hardship on producers with no history of food safety problems."

If that figure is going to be imposed, it needs to be severely scaled down the lower the sales quota gets otherwise it's going to eat into their livelihoods, I would have thought.

Darren Woolsey, you are sooo right!

It seems like a refrain from the power/money people.

We will make things soooo much better......."shhh at your expense".

You will have to do what we say or else watch your children starve.

As scripture says to the power/money people....they tie up heavy loads and tie them on the people's shoulders but they themselves do not care to move them with their finger.

The human should think twice about what they've been doing to the nature and themselves

Regulations like these cry out to be ignored/disobeyed. Agencies like the FDA seem to be working in conjunction with Big Business to eliminate small family-owned farms.
