With the new law in place, 'it will no longer be acceptable to turn a blind eye when arms are being transferred into the hands of regimes that will use them to devastate people's lives.'

Let us hope it does make a dent in the killing. Thanks Judy

While this treaty is not a panacea by any means, it is a small step in the right direction. Even though the U. S. has signed on to the ATT, it would have to be ratified by the Senate. The arms trade is very secretive, and the ATT will have an impact on how weapons are transferred. It also will introduce some pressure to create an ethical framework for the question of whether or not to send arms to a particular place. Arms must not be transferred for purposes of “genocide, crimes against humanity ... attacks directed against civilian objects or civilians ... or other war crimes”. To me, anything that shines any light on this dark business is welcome.

Thanks J.L. I was writing my comment when yours posted. I see you're thinking along the lines that I was thinking about this treaty.

130 countries had signed it, and 60 had ratified. The U.S. signed the Arms Trade Treaty in September 2013, but the Senate has not yet ratified it...
So, what is it worth...???

It is shameful that the U.S. has not ratified it...geez! it might get in the way of profits!
