Exxon Gets Fine, Harsh Criticism for Negligence in Pegasus Pipeline Spill

Feds levy a $2.6 million fine along with demands that Exxon better monitor the vulnerable structure for potential failure. An aging oil pipeline burst 2 years ago in a quiet Arkansas neighborhood and sent heavy crude oil flowing through the streets.

Sounds like the level of fine that's called "the cost of doing business" in lieu of compliance. Thanks Judy

Our government is too easy on oil companies. $2.6 millions is no fine to them. The fine should have been $206 million and that would be letting them off easy.

A drop in the bucket for them. If I remember correctly their profits last year were 6 billion. I could be wrong on that but I think that was the number.

Noted. Thanks, Judy.
At first I thought it must be one of those articles from The Onion......"harsh criticism."??? And, what a puny, little fee! Agree with Nelson Baker, above.

Right a drop in the bucket for them--and how many drops of oil and blood. Thanks Judy.

As many of you say, the oil companies get by with some piddly settlements. If the aging infrastructure isn't addressed, there will be more spills like this. Many jobs could be created by infrastructure repair!
