The passage of a controversial anti-terrorism bill shows how Canada uses the threat of terrorism to justify decreasing freedom, just like its neighbor to the south.

We gotta get Harper out--he's a thug+his party are goons. He's destroying this once enviable country into smithereens. Getting concerned as his support isn't exactly low in the polls. thx Judy

I am so sorry that this is happening to Canada, and am mortified that it was the United States that led the way. (I opposed the "PATRIOT Act" before it was even passed, but I was just a voice crying in the wilderness.)

Thanks ladies. This descent into being a paranoid police state is a terrible trend. The Patriot Act is a good template for similar countries to follow. There were way too few of us who opposed it before it was passed.

Feel sorry for those who believe in such "act`s". It is not to secure you but to control you,

He[Harper]now has 3 former chief aids on trial.....sorry make that 2.One is in jail already[Del Maistro?] Duffy and a fella by the name of Bruce Carson a convicted fraudster is up for 2 different trials in association with his time as a Harper appointee for the conservatives. Did I mention that he was a long term friend of Harpers? back to college days appently. Whallen is waiting for her turn at the courts and many other I am sure that need to be in court but as yet are not.He is running a campain of smoke and mirrors as he has no credible accomplishments during his time in office so far.

Noted. Thanks, Judy.
Seems like a virus infecting the major countries---mass surveillance. All because George W. Bush ignored all the warnings prior to 9/11. The agencies didn't talk to each other, and those that tried to give important information were ignored. So, we got Homeland Security and 80 Fusion Centers. I feel so bad for other countries following this horrible path of destruction of citizen's rights and freedoms.

Stephen Harper quote: "You won’t recognize Canada when I get through with it.”

From the Council of Canadians:

"With the election less than two weeks away, the Council of Canadians is launching VoteWatch, a service to report voter suppression Canadians may experience or witness.

“Preventing people from voting has been legalized for this election because of changes brought in by the ‘Fair’ Elections Act,” says Dylan Penner, Democracy Campaigner with the Council of Canadians. “We’re launching VoteWatch to make sure that any incidents of voter suppression can be brought to light quickly and effectively...

When it comes to potential election fraud, the Council of Canadians is encouraging voters to:

• RECOGNIZE IT: Be aware that any call claiming to be from Elections Canada is fraudulent. Calls coming from the “Voter Outreach Centre” are from the Conservative Party of Canada. Be on the lookout for anyone being prevented from voting at the polls, instances of misleading or harassing calls, or other dirty tricks that may interfere with people voting.

• RECORD IT: Write down what was said, the date and time. In the case of a suspicious phone call, write down the number the call came from. If you have a recording of the call or a video of the incident, keep it!

• REPORT IT: If you receive any suspicious calls or other communications, or if the new ID requirements make it difficult or impossible for you to vote, report it to

the perpetrators of the 2011 election fraud are still at large and Canadians are concerned they could strike again."

there was a time when we were a well respected country . now , thanks to the so called leader we have we have become a 3rd rate banana republic . if your not in oil or mining or some kind of business we the ordinary people don't rate any consideration by our own government .he has gutted our environmental laws totally , and if you speak out against them in power now you can be accused of all kinds of crimes, I was reading today on another site and I couldn't agree more with the comment . "hitler and stalin would be proud to be in a country with a bill like "c-51".my poor country . "You won’t recognize Canada when I get through with it.” was a harper comment , and I wonder if anyone knew how much he meant it and to what ends he'd go to too make it so , no matter how much the country and the Canadian people got hurt .

So a country doesn't want to be victimized the way the U.S. was and now they are a military state?

Your view is as extreme as the terrorists.

Greed and fear are a toxic mix, both here and in Canada.
