According to a statement from the Colorado Geological Survey:

"Colorado had a short-lived experience with nuclear-fueled, electric generation. The Fort Saint Vrain nuclear power plant near Platteville was built in the 1970s. This was an experimental type of facility and proved to be so expensive and problem plagued that after 13 years of operation it was converted to a natural-gas-powered plant. Unless the nation as a whole decides to return to nuclear-fueled power plants, it is unlikely that this fuel source will be a factor in Colorado electricity generation."

The people of Colorado also remember the notorious Rocky Flats, where nuclear weapons were manufactured for four decades. It became a Superfund site after operations were permanently closed down in 1993.

Three cheers for Boulder, and for all cities that pledge to go 100% renewable - and keep their promises.

thanks for sharing the good news Judy--the local level is showing itself to be far more progressive than state and federal levels in so many places
