Buy American = Bogus Promise? Trump's Keystone XL Lie Grows

Business  (tags: Pres. Trump, Keystone XL pipeline, steel )

President Trump has thrown his promises to American workers under the bus and caved to a foreign corporation seeking to move foreign tar sands oil across our country for export to overseas markets.

Who expects any of his promises to the ordinary people to actually be carried through?
Where corporations stand to gain, it is a different matter. And where there's no cost he can see, OK ...

I also suspect that the US steel industry isn't in a position to produce the quantities required within the time frame needed for planned pipeline laying - and people like DT will lose on investments if the pipelines aren't put in rapidly. Promises count for nothing when set alongside profits from investments ...

Look no further than China. . . . whose production and proliferation / saturation of Steel onto the world markets decimated the British Steel Industry.

It still amazes me that so many people believed the Billionaire to have their best interest at heart. He talks a good talk but is walk is anything but. His wife, who is the first missing First Lady, finally did come out the other day with some stupid comment on health care, and perhaps after her comment we might want to be happy she is missing in action.

Yes, there's the famous quote, which I'm paraphrasing from memory now, whereby we only think someone is stupid or ignorant, by virtue of them not saying anything, which when they've spoken, confirms it. . .

The 2018 mid term elections are going to be verrry interesting. The American public will be seething by then.

I remember the media discovered that the kind of pipes used in such pipelines are not made anywhere in this country back when he first made such a promise on the campaign trail. Thanks Judy for helping us all recall this dishonesty.

The answer to that, Colleen, is that Sociopaths don't FEEL, so when they speak, they actually believe what they're saying. . . which is why asking SOME members of any community or power-possessors to take lie detector test, is pointless. Lie Detectors measure and detect differences in body heat, heart, pulse, etc. Sociopaths genuinely believe what they're saying is true. Hence the detachment from reality and their lack of care or compassion for anyone.

I cannot believe the GOP aren't up in arms over most of this. Not all republicans are bought by the corporations. Are they?

Apparently the pipe is already made and ready. Of course Trump likely never knew this. He just says what occurs to him at the moment without research or facts.

Whether it's Russian, Italian, Canadian, or Chinese, he lied. It's not American made. Then again, we don't want the damn pipeline, anyway.

According to the report "Keystone XL Pipeline: Undermining U.S. Energy Security and Sending Tar Sands Overseas" (2012) by the NRDC, the benefits of the Keystone XL pipeline will be enjoyed largely by Canada, while the US will bear most of the risk. Most of the Gulf Coast refineries that will receive the tar sands oil will be tax free zones, requiring no tax payments from Canada. Most of the oil will be shipped overseas. The pipeline that will be used in the remaining construction of Keystone XL has already been imported from China, and that is what will be used. Tar sands oil is moved to the pipelines at high temperatures and pressures. Because this oil is very abrasive, lower quality pipeline is more likely to rupture and leak.

To answer Peggy's question, almost all Republicans as well as Democrats, for that matter, are owned by corporations. It's the nature of campaign finance rules that just about ensures that this happens.

Yes, Judy, correct.

Even Tony Blair's New Labour movement in the 1990s/2000s was a Tory/Conservative/Right-wing party in drag.

A true LABOUR movement SUPPORTS the working class, it doesn't exploit and strangle it.
