".... whenever a refinery has to be closed or restarted, especially in emergency situations, its emissions far exceed what's typically allowed."
"When petrochemical plants prepare for storms, they release thousands of pounds of pollutants into the air...It is a stark reminder of the dangers of living near industry."

OMG that's horrifying!!!!

I've seen a couple of reports on events involving fuels an chemicals, and as one would expect, officials are playing word games and insisting that the public need not worry about these things. One report on the PBS Nightly News involved an official insisting that two tanks of chemicals at the Arkema plant in Crosby, Texas had popped, but that we can't call it an explosion. I'm sure I wouldn't find it too comforting if I lived around there. They did tell people to stay out of a 1.5 mile area around the plant.

Again, if these disasters occurred closer to Washington, D.C. and Manhattan, you can bet your bottom dollar that something would be done, immediately.

Thank you, Judy, for posting.

What a dire health emergency....on top of all of the rest of damage this storm has done.

Like Darren, I am forwarding on social media.

I don't understand why safeguards were installed as this is area is known for flooding under a heavy thunderstorm. They had to know it was always a possibility to have extensive flooding in a situation like this hurricane.

I wish I remembered his name but CNN actually had a General on that was calling out many things. Such as why are we building certain chemical plants, one with taxpayers money of $40 million, in an area of only 3 ft above sea level, that taxpayer money could have been better spent on making sure the dams were in good order. He called out why the zoning board allowed houses to be built on floodplains and many other things. Good for him, I was surprised they didn't cut him off like they did on MSNBC when a reporter was mentioning how this was related to climate change.

We can look forward to a future with this type of thing happening more often as Trump dismantles the EPA and deregulates industries who will put profits before people's health and the safety of the environment.

Please copy/paste this info:
Enrollment for 2018 Affordable Care Act (ACA / Obamacare) starts November 1 and ends December 15.
Trump has cut the funds to announce when people can enroll.

He sure did, this is his part of "letting it fail". Can you imagine a President doing his best to make sure people do not find health insurance or to make sure that it might end up being removed with his help.
